While driving home to MA (on pavement) from our house in NH during a snowstorm today I had the truck in 4x4 high b/c the roads were a mess...about 1/2 way through the trip...100 miles roughly...I heard a clunk from the rear of the truck while on the highway (no acceleration or anything going on...just cruising) and then about 5 mins later it happened again and the Dash GUI lights up with a big WARNING about 4x4, but it explains NOTHING, and won't let me see the Warning, but simply tells me that there is a Warning...and an orange Wrench comes on and stays on.

The truck seems to go in and out of 4x4 and 2x4, but...it seemed to be retarding power delivery and be in some sort of limp mode or reduced power mode.

I JUST got home...it's pitch black out...we have 2' of snow coming...and this could not be a worse time for this, but at 1.5 years and 32K I know it's under warranty, but does anyone know what the heck this would be? Thanks.

Really a long shot here but possibly and IWE/ vacuum line issue? One may have slipped off being so chilly out. Look at the IWE/spindle vacuum line connections for a cracked or loose vacum line. Fire it up in 2wd and see if If it re-occurrs. Might be as simple as a battery/alternator.

Please let us know what you find,

Sorry for late replies, but this forum does NOT send me email notifications of any new replies although I have all that checked off.

I am dealing with the snow removal now, and will try and get on this asap with a dealer.

Is this something ANY Ford dealer is qualified for, or am I to be afraid of your average dealer?

You should be fine at ANY dealer.

I had to visit the dealer 5 or 6 or 7 times (lost count at this point) for a ticking sound in the door panel. First few times they said they couldn't duplicate the problem but they heard it each time I took them for a test drive. Last time I even printed step-by-step instructions on how to fix it. The tech assured me that all steps were performed. Lo and behold, ticking noise was back right away. Decided to fix it myself and when I pulled the door panel off I found NONE of the steps I gave the service manager were performed.

I have a lot of patience and always say please and thank you. Anyways, my factory warranty just expired late last month so I will not be back at any Ford dealer anytime soon.
