2013 ...Is this the year for the ecoboost Raptor ?

The neighbour across the street and 2 houses up the road has a '12 F150 Crewcab, 5.5 ' box, 4x4 With the Ecoboost. He bought it because they are older, and wanted a fuel efficient truck,, as they retire in 2 years, he and his wife. Its 13 weeks old and been to the dealer 3 times for issues. He drives it very easy and says according to the display its getting 14.7 MPG and I know he does highway miles, since we have to drive on the highway to get to town.
I drive my raptor much harder than he drives, plus its wider and pushes more air since its bigger, and its not broken in yet, and my display already says 11.2 and is climbing everyday, it must have idle a lot to read so low before I got it. At the rate its climbing I bet it will soon read 13 MPG, I didn't want to reset it when I got it, as I wanted to know what it got for mileage over its whole lifetime, since literally the day it was built, not reset, just so it reads higher.

I haven't reset my truck in about 4,000 miles just for fun and I'm averaging 14.7 with lots of remote start time and fun-time with the go-pedal. I even idled for about 15-20 minutes in a parking lot of a Mexican restaurant, too.

I used to think an EB would be kind of cool in a Raptor, but really, I don't see the benefit over the motors the Raptor has already had in it. My 5.4 gets 17-18 on road trips and for a big truck with 35's on it, I think that's pretty damn good. Sure I'd like more power but it's not a big deal.

I don't really think 14-16 on the 6.2's is all that bad either. We're driving brick walls (aerodynamically speaking) with 35" tires on them.

A smaller twin turbo setup would be crazy cool in a compact pickup (like the now dead Ranger) version of the Raptor. I almost feel like the EB would take away from the vibe this truck projects.

For me the V8 roar when I slam on the gas going sideways on a trail is what its about. When I hear it and I'm hauling ass and throwing dirt, my mind it brings up images of trophy trucks running the baja and such and that's really part of the fun.

It's what I assume driving a Ferrari fast around a track and listening to the exhaust note would be like. You know it's not an F1 car, but damnit it's fun to pretend that it is.

I tend to come at folks head-on so I get that a couple of you don't 'like' my input.

Instead of discounting the message because of the messenger, look up some of the posts of Eco owners that have installed a lift and larger tires. It will very rapidly become clear that the Eco is a phenomenal engine for what it was designed to do - power a relatively lightweight utility vehicle.

Once you take the engine out of its 'comfort' zone it isn't as phenomenal. Could it be made to perform better in the Raptor than the 6.2, absolutely, but power costs mpg so it loses it's Eco benefit.

Now if you put an Eco in a Ranger with similar suspension as the Raptor, we'd get our ass handed to us.

I don't think the eco raptor would be that great. I do like the eco engines though.

As far as the argument of adding heads / cams ect.. and then being the same.

the difference is a tune costs under $400 for the extra power.....

My SHO picked up 1.07 tenths, with a tune, and a tune only in the 1/4 mile!!!!!
