What year's your Raptor? The injectors do audible a little bit of ticking noise. There's a TSP on the purge valve for ticking, but iirc, its only for some of the 10's. Mine gets a little unusual tick every once in awhile, but its not enough to worry me, specially since there's no other indication anything is wrong.

Same here. Although I did have the tsb for the purge valve done (it was an intermittent thing and if you put your finger on the connector, you could feel it and make it stop) and it took alot of that ticking away.

OP, you've gotta remember that this is an all new engine that hasn't been around all that long, so it's not like the tech's or engineer's now exactly what's going or where to look, this is probably new to them too. It seems that this motor does like to make sooome ticking noises at all times. It's even more apparent when you have headers and a cai. But like Pirate said, nothing out of the ordinary is presenting itself to indicate an actual problem.

raptr engine noise

Final outcome of raptor engine noise,,, ford bought it back after 4 plus weeks in service,, ford WOULD NOT replace the engine, their plan was to continue to guess what might be wrong. I had suggested several times that they replace the engine and let the wizards in dearborn tear down THEIR engine and diagnose,,,, suffices to say that my opinion of ford customer service is extremely low

Sorry to hear about your PIA experience screamineagle08. Sounds like you got a lemon. So are you going with the Tundra now? Great trucks. Absolutely love the 5.7 in those.

Hope you give Ford another try in the future. I believe they're doing a lot of things right these days.

Sorry you had to go through this........but if I understand you correctly (and that's a big "if"), Ford is buying the entire truck back from you. If you get past being (rightfully) hacked off, I hope you do consider buying another one for reasons already mentioned. Speaking as a scientist (which is what I do for a living).....and, again, if I understand you correctly.....I think Ford ultimately did the right thing in buying back your truck. As noted in a post above, this is a fairly new motor..........something appears to have gone dreadfully wrong involving the motor in the truck you purchased. Were I Ford, I would want the motor back to tear it down, or whatever I had to do, to find out what went wrong so I could reduce the chances of the same thing happening in the future. But, since I don't know if what went wrong involved only the motor, pulling the motor from your truck and replacing it for you does me (Ford) no good if the problem involved the motor and/or it's interaction with other components (tranny, etc., etc.).....so, as Ford, I want the entire truck to work with if I want to do it right (and kudos to Ford for ultimately doing this....what was it that Churchill said...something like "America will always do the right thing, but only after having exhausted all other possibilities").

Tundras are nice trucks but, heck, I see a zillion of them around here.....nice, bland truck that's probably well-engineered......but it ain't a Raptor.

Whatever you decide, I hope things ultimately work out well for you!

both my 2010 6.2 and my new 11 make the same weird ticking noise. I'm a huge ford fan, i can build a 4.6 32v in my sleep and always wondered if the noise on my trucks were due to the cam followers or valve guides. I'll continue to flog it. If it breaks, i have 5 years on the powertrain warranty. With the 03-04 cobras, they had a head problem with some bad valve guides making an audible tick noise. I boosted and sprayed the **** out of the head tick and the engine took it like a champ. Although, when i ported my heads, i replaced the ****** guides with some aftermarket ones and the tick was non existent.

Actually worked with the salesman and bought a 2012 platinum with the eco boost. loved the raptor but have zero patience for a troublesome vehicle. This was its third lengthy visit since April. I have a 2003 chev silverado ss with the 6.0 awd and have had no trouble, Also 2004 f250 harley edition with the infamous 6.0 diesel and it has never been to the service dept.

Undoubtedly I just slid into a lemon, My biggest complaint was with Ford corporate and their poor handling of the whole situation. The customer service rep would tell me one thing and the field engineers and service manager had an entirely different story. That screams poor service to me.

I own a Goodyear Service center, and cant imagine keeping a customer vehicle for over 3 weeks with no diagnosis, and we work on all brands.

Ford only services their own brand and at the end of three plus weeks had absolutely no clue of the malfunction and no idea how long they would keep guessing .:flipthebird::flipthebird:

Hi guys,
I used to have a 2011 Raptor which had similar knocking noise but in situation the engine got completely broken with a piston coming out of the block. Ford had changed the block and one cylinder head and they fixed the other head from the old unit due to the fact that it looks good. After installing the new engine block i kept getting check engine sign in the dash board and when checking for the code i kept getting multiple/random misfire in Cylinder B, and Cylinder H.
I love the Raptor but i had to sell it and will wait for couple of years so that Ford come up with a better engine for this vehicle.
