I agree, assume without checking. You know, ass-u-me. I dont really have a mechanic. What I need is a service manual for this beast. I think next up is to clean the throttle body. But from diagnosis reports found given to previous owner, there is wear on the camshaft lobes and scoring on a rocker arm. It's geting there slowly, but going to have to go deep.
If I were you, I would pull both valve covers off carefully and inspect the rockers and valve springs if there is an issue as you mentioned with a cam lobe (that's rare on these engines). No CEL (check engine light)?

Here is a link for your owners manual which might help somewhat, service manual you might find at a book store (online), etc, the internet has them.

Question, what exactly are the symptoms you are experiencing? I feel like that would be more helpful information to know and any of the mechanical superstars on here might be able to help you chase it down...
At first, it was very rough idle, stalls, would not shift out of reverse, and then wouldn't go into reverse, goes into first and stuck there, several misfires in several cylinders, all but two. The dealer did a complete tear down of top engine. Also, Found one O2 sensor unplugged and connector melted on exhaust. Found more than usual wear on the camshaft lobe and scoring on the rocker arm. Claimed to have changed all 16 spark plugs and coils/wires, changed trans fluid and filter. Still same symptoms.

Re:Transmission: The dealer "addressed" the recall of the molded lead frame sensor. At first the Ford service manager says "Yes it was replaced." Then my scanner shows - "Transmission Range Sensor out of position." I said, "well the TRS was not installed correctly so please fix it since you said there is a 2 year warrantly on parts." She says, "Oh no we didn't replace it, so there can be no warranty on a part we didn't replace." "Ok, well then replace molded lead frame sensor like the letter said you would." "Oh dear, you are out of the 10 warranty for that. Sorry. Bye." I took it to a trans specialist, the TRS is inside the molded lead frame on the 6.2s, costs $300, so he replaced the molded lead frame and fixed this problem with the transmission for $650, and changed the fluid. Yes, I will go back to Ford and collect the $650, because the vehicle was in their shop while warranty was still in effect.

Even though the plugs were supposed changed, a few were re-fouled. We changed those. The K & N air filter was cleaned and looked like it wasn't in a very long time. Nobody seemed to notice that. We changed O2 sensors, all 4 were black, replaced the pcv valve and cleaned the MAF. It started running better, like it could finally breathe. Still have codes: P0306, P0305, P0300, and now P0316 and B1218 are new. After driving a few miles, my scanner showed about 100 misfires in cylinder 5, and 1,300 in cylinder 6. Zero in the others.

No problem with the transmission anymore. The vehicle still cannot accelerate uphill, idle is still rough, not as bad. I ordered a new vapor canister purge valve. I'm sure the engine is very dirty inside including the throttle body. However, there is a ticking sound, so it looks like the camshaft and the rocker arm has to be dealt with and won't fix itself. The previous owner apparently ran it on low oil, and didn't clean the air filter. This is the result.

I'm approaching this project as if with a flashlight in a dark cave. Any suggestions are all greatly appreciated.
Aloha.

What's a bookstore?

OP, did you get an extended warranty from the dealer? Is there another Ford dealer in your area that doesn't sound like a toolbox?
No, not the first owner, and by now would be expensive. After the first dealer fiasco, I took it to the 2nd dealer who wanted to change all the plugs and coils, not knowing it was just at the 1st dealer 200 miles on the odometer earlier, and suggested replacing the molded lead frame sensor. Declined, and took it back to dealer #1 and AHA! that's when I found out what wasn't done.

Dang bro, you've been through a lot. Well if the dealer did rip the whole top end of the engine off, that would of been really expensive, did they remove the heads? or just the valve covers, curious what the whole top of the motor means to you and that mechanic? Another question: if they took the motor apart and found the cam lobe worn, etc, where is your estimate to repair it and why didn't you? Those parts are still available , last I checked, but you can't get a rebuilt motor yet as they are still backordered or they may not even build them again, who knows. I would quit driving your truck until you get that part fixed, if the valve spring breaks and the valve dislodges it will be diasterous for your engine and won't even be rebuildable in most cases.

I will quote partially what Ford dealer #1 stated on the $3,600 invoice, paid by previous owner: "Found check engine light on... retrieved codes P0300, P0305, P0306. Recommend tune up. Tune up performed. Performed fuel injector cleaning service...Checked for spark, spark present... fuel available...Manual compression on cylinder 5:195 psi, cylinder 6: 200 psi. Running compression, cylinder 5 @idle 90 psi and throttle flip 30 psi (good). Cylinder 6: @idle 5 psi and throttle flip 0 psi (bad reading). Suspect intake valve not opening to allow air into cylinder. Next step, remove bank 2 valve cover. Removed LH valve cover, no obvious sign of damage or anything broken. Found more than normal wear on cylinder 6 intake cam lobe and roller. Removed shaft and found rocker arm roller scored. After tune up, dtc P0161, B2S2. Will need further diag. Customer declined." When I got the truck, there were more misfire codes.

Thank you for the advise. We don't drive it much. There is no mechanic. Just me and my younger brother. I'm a 67 year old grandmother. This truck is getting fixed no matter what it takes. I'm taking it to a shop next week to replace/repair the camshaft and rocker arm. Not many auto repair shops here want to work on a 6.2. This is the wild, wild west, 5,000 mi. from civilization in either direction. You get what you get.

Okay, you just went up a notch in my book!! For your information, you can get the parts a lot cheaper from Rockauto and/or Tasca Parts , even if you want to use that as a bargaining chip for a reduced price at your dealer. If you need help sourcing parts, etc, we are all here to help. Keep us informed on what’s going on with the repair. We are all pulling for you!
