I’d like to attach a 3/8" hose to the radiator drain valve and vacuum the coolant from the overfill reservoir. My plan is to remove around a gallon at a time but most likely less with only performing this once. I’m starting this process at 45,000 miles and will repeat it at each 5,000-mile interval (when I do oil changes and tire rotations). Removing the tire seems to improve access to the drain valve area?
However, I’ve noticed there’s a plastic shield or molding in that corner, which appears to snap together. I’m unsure about the correct method to remove it without causing damage. Has anyone performed a similar minimal coolant flush on a Gen 3 Raptor and can share any insights or steps?
For reference, I’ve done coolant flushes on a JKU before by simply pulling hoses and replacing them, often using an AirLift. I still have the AirLift and will use it with this job. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, especially regarding safely removing the plastic shield or optimizing this “partial flush” approach. I guess I could accomplish the same just by simply driving it a few exits on the freeway and then repeating the process but you have to wait for the engine to cool down again and its time consuming. If I can make a good system maybe I can add this to the next few 5K driveway oil changes and tire rotations?
I’ll be posting more questions soon, as I’m planning several maintenance tasks when my Raptor hits 50,000 miles. Thanks in advance! Appreciate any advice on this subject. Already got the correct coolant and FYI the parts house will match ford parts online prices.
