I mean why is this even a thread again? For Christ sake does anyone have ANY concept of base metals properties/building material quality? pretend it’s a different “hobby/niche” vehicle like a wrangler, bronco, vette, mustang, Aston, whatever- ummmm duuhhhh do I want the AL one that has panels that won’t rust, weigh 3x less, & cost 10x more to produce/form or the ****** steel stuff?

think about price difference between parts- it’s like, do you wanna build your boat outta rusty nails or Marine grade stainless bolts? You know the obvious answer.

thats just materials/build quality- forget about getting into all

Have a 14 supercrew 19 supercab 19 is 1 foot shorter with aluminum body and 3.5 1100 lbs lighter. On pavement my wife would rather drive 14 hates the feel of turbos kicking in and out where the 6.2 is the 6.2 but in on hardpack or baja i would go with 19 weight and wheelbase and keeping rpms up it is definitely quicker. Computerized shocks are unreal as long as the computer keeps working they are both engineering production marvels and im lucky to own both

Just what I noticed.
I am a 2011 6.2 owner purchased in 2011 so I love my truck. At the dealership getting oil changed they wanted me to look at the new raptor...
So how big of an ol boy are you...????
I am 6 2 and 260 the new truck they made the seat narrower and the console wider....
I am not a fan of the interior.

Can’t argue that the gen 2 is a good truck. Could perhaps argue that looks are subjective and some may like the more rounded edges of a gen 1 or the sharper lines of a gen 2. I personally like both.

While aluminum won’t rust, it can corrode whether through oxidation and exposure to chlorides but also potential galvanic corrosion. All that said I wish my Gen 1 wasn’t rusting at this point. It’s not bad at this time but I spend a lot of time sanding the underbody, painting and spraying MPHD to stop/slow it.


As far as sound goes it is part of the experience. My opinion it helps complete the drive. When off-roading and getting in the higher rpms, it is just the whole thing put together. Kinda makes me feel like I am a trophy truck driver lol.

Having said all of that I know the gen 2 is faster and I would like my truck to be faster. Who wouldn’t?

I never really understood the generation wars. I mean it is one thing to poke fun but these seem to really rub people the wrong way.

A quick google says the 3.5 weighs in at 449lbs - assuming that is true the 7.3 is not as heavy as I would have expected.

Those figures sound about right. The 7.3 is an aluminum head, iron block pushrod engine. Very similar to a GM LS engine or Chrysler 5.7/6.4/6.2 Hemi.

Bought 8 yr 100k extended warranty and service plan from flood ford in RI because of all the computers on gen2
