SnoBall 2025 - first time - equipment feedback & tips

I was going to say, stay away from an M/T tire and do an A/T tire instead, but it looks as if you’ve already gotten A/T tires. M/T doesn’t do as well in deep snow with my experience, even if 3-peak rated. The A/T’s do better with how the snow gets slick when compacted down. (I actually like how...

Fall colors ended a little soon in the San Juans.

Gaia GPS - a turn for the worse.

The Earthmate is junk. I found Gaia is still the best, and migrate as much as I can over to it. For those who don’t want Gaia, OnX Off-road and Backcountry probably second best.

Gaia GPS - a turn for the worse.

Price hike is a disappointment, and the app invasiveness is even worse. The problem is there is no other mapping system like it. I use it for all the other layers like avalanche danger, smoke and fire areas, cell service, forest service roads and NatGeo trails. Haven’t found any other service...

    recommend trails in southwest Colorado

Last time I did Imogene was October and there was plenty of snow on top causing treacherous conditions. I about slid the Raptor down the north side from the top. There were also two 4Runner rigs that were stuck on a steep icy incline, and a Silverado pickup that had been stuck there for two...

    recommend trails in southwest Colorado

Link Ophir Pass and Imogene Pass together. Imogene is tight going up from Telluride - narrow on the side of the mountain. Definitely doable but if anyone is coming down the other way while you are on certain sections... Use Gaia GPS to find everything else.

    BF Goodrich 37 lie

Not to dump more fuel on fire, but... My favorite was that he measured the tire "vertically and laterally" and found them to be the same. If they weren't, that would be a strange-shaped wheel...! :hahano:

FORSCAN (vehicle connection no longer allowed)

Any ideas why I may not be able to reconnect FORSCAN to the truck after visiting the dealership? The night before visiting dealership, FORSCAN connected fine. The day at the dealership, I saw them plug into the OBDII. Ever since, FORSCAN says it cannot connect to the truck. It recognizes...

    Phone mount

Built-right mount. You won't have vibrating, especially if you leave that rubber mat in the tray and drill the mount into it. I use 67 Designs for mounts and arms, and lately have been running the Peak Designs magnetic mount (big thumbs up!).

Solved - Truck is making a loud noise / vibration like an air compressor running from the engine compartment

Happened to me several years ago going through the La Sal mountains. I happened to go through some forest service roads that had cattle - hence, lots of mud and cow manure. A day later, after all of that had dried on the truck, the horrible sound kicked on while in Moab. Yeah, it'll freak you...

    Break in & robbery

THAT’S A FACT!!! I didn’t want this thing back. They damage the vehicles to where they are never the same. Probably would smell of weed, booze, and other rank hood-rat smells. And I would forever have issues with the vehicle after insurance fixes it. Allstate said they give it two weeks to be...

    Break in & robbery

There’s a ridiculous amount of vehicles stolen every day in Dallas. Yes, in broad daylight and not just the nice trucks. Had my Escalade stolen in front of Best Buy store couple months ago. My wife got out with our young kids and started walking into the store, when thieves jumped out, opened...

    Break in & robbery

Raptors, TRX's, and the GMC Denali trucks are targeted in TX because the cartels pay professional car-theft crews to get them across the border to them.

    Break in & robbery

For whatever reason, the new thing in Dallas is to break into the trucks through the rear window. Probably looks less conspicuous driving with just the rear broken out vs the driver or passengers, so they believe they're less apt to be spotted. I attribute my overlanding rack to being the...

    Upgrade, I hope.

Both trucks are great. They will be slightly different. Just don’t compare the new one to the old one. You did purchase a new truck, with new design and upgrades. It is what it is. If you wanted it to drive exactly like your Gen 2, you should’ve stayed in your Gen 2.

    360 camera alignment

Glad you posted this. The last week, I kept noticing that I was backing in like a jacka$$ into parking spots and couldn’t figure out why I was having such a rough go at something I’ve done naturally for so long. I’ll check the cameras are in place right before doing a Forscan calibrate. Keep...

Remote start heated seats won’t turn on.

Yeah, I've been using the heated seats this week in CO. This morning I remote started and got in and found the A/C seats were on full-blast. Other times in TX summer, I'll leave the truck with the A/C seats on full blast, only to remote start the next day and find that they aren't on. No...

    From Tacoma to Raptor.

Was Toyota person for years. Got tired of waiting around for the new Tundra and bought at Gen2. Man…so glad I didn’t wait for a Tundra. I’m in CO backcountry now, and it’s Toyota land out here. I definitely get the looks as the Raptor is in a league of its own and not use to being seen...

2019 hit on right front, $29K repair bill...insurance woes...USAA sucks!

Get new insurance. Shouldn’t be that much of a hassle for a wreck you’re not at fault for with that much damage. I suggest Allstate or State Farm.

    New Falken Wildpeak AT4W

I’ve been pretty happy with Toyo A/T III for snow and ice. Went through some gnarly passes in blizzards with them. I feel they do better in wet than the KO2’s did, and I loved the KO’s. Road manners on the toyos is good as well; noise minimal.

Gen 3 Raptor Squatting + Overlanding

There is alpine tundra in Western CO as well as heading to the La Sal mountains. Not all tundra is alpine. Tundra is marked with short vegetation close to ground due to short seasons for growth and arid/dry climates (also contributed to by higher elevations).
