Yes, BCM requires programming, including key programming. If you buy it online and it’s an incorrect or faulty part you’ll end up having to pay the dealer for their time to remove/install and trying unsuccessfully program it. Better to buy it through the dealer and have them install and program...
Start by checking the fluid level. It’s very easy to under or overfill these transmissions, and you’ll end up with the symptoms of erratic shifting and engagement as well as overheating.
The transmission fluid needs to be 206-215 degrees F as verified by the gauge or a scan too before taking a...
There’s about 99.9% chance it’s a workmanship issue. Engines don’t just randomly fail 500 miles after an intrusive repair. The most common causes of workmanship issues are debris left behind and improperly torqued fasteners.
I’d recommend having another dealer or independent mechanic...
Correct. Once those DTCs set the circuit output is disabled and the BCM needs to be replaced.
Your Amazon lights are most likely what killed it. When the current draw is out of spec, the BCM will set a DTC and eventually disable the circuit. If the fault continues to exist it will disable the...
I don’t have my truck in front of me, but the TSB does not instruct the dealer to do the software update. This is because the update was removed from the TSB when 21B10 was released. Owners had one full year to get the update completed for free. Since you’re far outside of that window, it is a...
If the crank bolt isn’t torqued correctly it will damage the crank gear. Which of course is a workmanship issue. But that can easily be confirmed, they’re stating “diagnostics suggest” a “bad” crankshaft. None of that adds up.
“Bad crankshaft”?
So it was brought in for a phaser noise, right? How did the crankshaft become “bad”, and how are they determining that?
This shop sounds more suspicious with every update.
This one literally states to ignore and clear the DTC.
This is coded under harsh ride/warnings.
I’m very familiar with the messages and bulletins. What I’m saying is they don’t apply unless there is related customer concern. Highlighted in bold in your quoted message.
DTCs will set during normal operation due to network traffic, missed messages, etc. If there is no concern related to those DTCs then there is nothing to disgnose.
The dealer cannot perform diagnostics, updates, or repairs based on a DTC with no symptom.
Yes, if a valve spring breaks it will often cause the retainer to come off and the valve drops into the cylinder. That causes catastrophic engine damage.
Maybe someone here can recommend a good aftermarket upgrade from factory, I’m only familiar with the OEM parts.
Can’t hear anything in the video so just going by your description.is the truck completely stock? It sounds like the shop was throwing parts, the only way to accurately pinpoint a noise that can’t be diagnosed by ear/feel is by using chassis ears. Basically a microphone that mounts to a...
These engines have a bad habit of randomly breaking valve springs at higher mileage, so since you’re in there already it would be a good preventative repair.
Depends who’s doing the remanufacturing. If it’s through Ford it will have all new current service level parts. If it’s an aftermarket it’s a gamble, some only replace what is “broken” and reuse the rest.
