    Supercharged Horror Stories

Hello Mark, A factory 2013 Roush Stage II with 133k. It’s been a great truck. No nightmares. Only issue so far is needing to replace one of the three yellow LED’s in the grill. Also, with the JDM tune, I’m now averaging 15.2 mpg (mostly highway miles). Also, more importantly, thank you for your...

    Yet another Supercharger thread...

...and the NVH suppression that occurs in the intake manifold versus compression along the spatial reduction of the cavity along the rotors of the screw. BTW, I’m a fan of both TS and Roots depending on the application. Nothing is perfect at everything.

    Daily driver roush raptor anyone???

2013 Stage II w/131k. Since the VMP tune and going back to stock tires, it will legitimately get 16 mpg at 70 mph on a flat grade. It’s a great truck.

    Gear ratio?

If you are doing the tune, go ahead and toss in a 72mm SC pulley. It’s worth it.

Coming back to Gen1 with a question

    I have 2013 Roush Stage II w/JDM tune and a 72mm pulley. It’s probably in the 630hp area w/129k. It’s been a dime.

    Roush Raptor Spun a Rod

Roush Stage II w/72mm pulley and a 93 octane tune VMP. 128k miles, all supercharged. Good luck with the project going forward!

    What part is this!

Is your truck a 2017+? I agree with nosbusa. I wouldn’t want to risk ingesting something other than air.

    Supercharger or not?

Agreed with these past posts regarding email tunes. I’d argue aside from likely speeding, the real/street data logging provides a more accurate loading for the tune. Provided the tuner is good, this should be no different than my previous tuner doing the initial tune on the dyno and “dialing it...

High mileage owners please check in

I’m with CoronaRaptor. Once the Roush tune was eliminated, zero issues and it actually gets decent gas mileage. Once it’s warmed up, it will get ~18mpg at 65mph on a level highway. Going back to the factory size made a difference (from 80lb Nitto RG 37x12.50 to BFG KO2 315/70/17...which are a...

Take a look into VMP as well. They offer a similar setup but the stated gains are more conservative.

    Roush Supercharged Questions

I had issues as well. It would throw a belt (at best) or rip the tensioner arm completely off every single time I was at WOT in 4wd Hi on a 1-2 shift and once from a 2-3. I called VMP and removed a ribbed idler pulley and got a tune from Justin. No issues since.

    Inside Cab noise with S/C

It’s unnoticeable unless in boost. Even then, it’s not loud by any measure. If your truck is well maintained, I wouldn’t blink at adding an SC. My truck has 125k, all supercharged.

Billet oil pump install if Roush SC already in place?

Definitely avoid the rev limiter. Shift points are one thing, bouncing off the rev limiter isn’t good. if the oil pump fails and somehow you would immediately be able to shut the engine off (which I believe the oil pressure sensor on these trucks senses and will shut off the engine when it...

Billet oil pump install if Roush SC already in place?

Avoid wheel hop. I was told this was a major contributing factor for failure by two reputable tuners.

Billet oil pump install if Roush SC already in place?

Stock oil pump. I don’t quite redline it, though let it run through the gears to the shift point at WOT. Tune is from VMP. It’s great. Improve throttle response, power and fuel economy. JDM is very reputable as well.

Billet oil pump install if Roush SC already in place?

125k here on a serialized Roush Stage II. The last 25k have been with a 72mm pulley and tune as well. Likely flywheel hp is ~630-640. No issues. Avoid wheel hop!

    JDM engineering 700 HP kit

I don’t have it but looked into it. Based on my experience with a VMP tune and 72mm pulley, the JDM kit will be well worth it.

    Supercharger or not?

Ok. Quick check. Mpg actual on the drive to work and back is 14.9mpg. Manual calculation but again, it’s not a like vs like. Fuel content (neat vs E10). Tune (relaxed NOX vs AF/R...etc.), decent DA vs incredible DA...there is a difference, just not as significant. Regardless, I want to note it...

    Supercharger or not?

If I were to purchase the kit aftermarket, I would have went Whipple. The TVS is nice, but the 2.3 vs the Whipples available, there is certainly a difference. Whipple also has improved reliability of the earlier twin screws (K-B had more of the issues with rotor tolerances). The TVS is very...

    Supercharger or not?

I’ll make an effort to capture actual mpg the next tank. Just to clarify, those numbers that are raising some brows are a two-way ten mile drive between my house and my work, which happens to be nearly level. There is less than 10’ of elevation change on the drive. This is going off of the...

    Supercharger or not?

On those no. Off the computer estimate. On some individual tanks, I can only recall doing it twice. When I first put the tune on and began blending and maybe another month in, which would have been last September or so. They were relegated to my trip to work and back which was highway driving at...
