Yeah, it's an aesthetic ring. It really doesn't matter how tight it is as long as it just stays on. And you can easily remove it yourself later when changing tires or wheels.
Whew, that's a list, John. After so many years of doing it, I'm sure you've collected items for every contingency you've experienced or thought of.
I like your idea of radios and proper footwear/clothing if you have to 2xfoot. It's the kind of gear I always have as I'm comfortable being use...
Just another opinion on the winch: they're heavy; they're very expensive; you have to get a new bumper or modify yours along with intercooler displacement;
If you're solo, they require trees or giant boulders to winch to use. Try starting with a set of recovery boards (Maxxtraxx) for $400...
I’d do engine mods very last. The engine is perfect for off-roading already - as far as power is concerned.
Id prioritize tires (BFG’s, Coopers, or General Grabbers) then springs and any other suspension items. Live with that a bit before you add anything else.
Anything GPS will also require a clear view to the sky (satellite).
And don’t fool yourself, just because your phone shows where you are inside a building doesn’t mean it’s the GPS. It’s all the WiFi and Bluetooth contact points tracking you wherever you go.
Depends on who the Raptor owner is. There's a lot more "regular" guys driving these trucks these days who don't even fully understand what kind of truck they have. If it's someone who's put a little bit of money into modding it or uses it to play, you're likely to get a wave as we are all...
Mileage on a Ford ecoboost engine won't be the issue. It would be better to know what kind of 85,000 miles it saw - hard off-road and jumping, all street - and what the maintenance record for it looked like.
Face value on a 2018 with that many miles (assuming all normal driving and good...
Maybe it's older models that have this. I waited awhile. Also, Accessory power should be killed once truck is turned off and locked - hence no radio or other lights operable. Should be the same for the USB and the little lamp on the console compartment. No reason whatsoever for it to stay on.
Higher-speed stuff is going to be West of Moab where the desert opens up more - closer to Canyonlands. Moab stuff isn't that fun for going fast - too rocky for it, and in a lot of cases, it's really frowned on because of the safety issue and the amount of dust you'll kick up for everyone else...
I got my '18 this last year and it still had the stock battery. It went dead at one point. I replaced it with an Odyssey. Several weeks later, I started having low voltage again, dropping below 12v. Couldn't figure it out - brand new quality battery. I started putting a battery tender on it...
Stock OEM beadlock capable wheels off of a 2018.
Wheels had 19,000 miles which likely mostly saw almost all highway miles. No scratches, chips, or dings. Just some light dirt still on them.
Each beauty ring has one bolt missing from being destroyed when trying to remove.
$800 for all four...
Onion Creek, Gemini Trails...few others...you'll be fine. Just don't do the jeep rock-crawling type trails. There's enough variety in Moab. Enjoy the views. Post pics.
Lots of good advice in all these posts. Better to specify what kind of driving in snow you are asking about...road/highway or offroad?
Hwy/road:
-Realize it takes longer/further to stop; adjust accordingly
-Use 4A (or the weather/snow mode)
-Extra weight in the bed will help
-Assessing what...
Yes, you are correct about how the tire fits over the lip and is pinched and held in place by the beadlock ring.
Second: realize that the rings on the truck stock are "beauty rings." They can't function as beadlock rings. That will be a separate purchase for you to use the "beadlock capable"...
