Installed my BD XL80s on SDHQ mounts yesterday, and finalized my wire routing today. Teaser pic:
Ran the intermediate loom in the channel in front of the wiper assembly; under the top trim pieces of course. Only mod was that I drilled a small hole on the driver’s side for a zip tie to hold...
Just back from our daughter’s concert...had an opportunity to test out the XLs on the drive home and wow! Like turning on the sun!
Also swung by a construction site to get a couple pics. The ground drops off and only had my cell phone and it kept adjusting the aperature, so the pics don’t...
Just split the loom...then taped it back up with the ground wire outside the sheath for about 15-18” so I could run it from where the hot wire connects to the upfitter, and thenn around the passenger side firewall over to a grounding point. I considered shortening that part of the loom, but...
Lighting phase two complete:
Very straightforward with the Raptor-specific harness. Had to spilt out the ground for ~18” to get it to a true ground on the passenger side engine compartment. And not a huge fan of the quick connect splices to tap into the upfitter wire, but it’s working...
Phase one of the black friday loot going in!
Stock:
Vs. just the FRL foglight kit I picked up from Nick over BF weekend:
Can’t wait to add the XLs on A-pillar mounts tomorrow (well, later today now!)...will almost double the output with just those two lights!
Woot!
Phase one of lighting complete! And those “low power” KC Flex lites are bright as hell! May have to add some tint to the amber covers:
Love that the lights are so bright it washes everything out, but you can see the reflection of each individual LED in the rain water:
Have only...
All lights in! Here’s the driver’s side:
Doing the wiring now...ridiculously easy with the plug and play loom pre-made for 2xBD 2” cubes (Squadron) and 1xKC Flex light that I picked up separately.
I went with the flex light with the optional amber covers because I wanted a lower wattage...
Installing my triple bezels now...loose fit only so far, but there’s a huge gap at the bottom between the bracket and the bumper:
Clearly I don’t have everything aligned correctly yet.... Right?
Edit: Gap clearly mentioned in directions...read them twice y’all! It is closing up as I snug...
Will do Nick...
And thanks again for your patience walking me through all the choices and options. As a new Raptor owner, I really appreciated you taking the time (over the holiday weekend no less!) to explain the pros and cons of each instead of just pushing for the most expensive or highest...
Kind of odd quoting myself, but what a hoot hooning around the track today!
Will see if anyone in the clubhouse or on the deck posted pictures, but just a couple exterior shots from me. Should have hooked up a gopro or something...
Turned mid-to-high 1:40 lap times when I was actually...
Been a member about a month now!
Lights on the way, and swapped out the appliqué tailgate for a smooth one from a ‘17 that I had painted... Need to find some smoked taillights or tint them myself next.
Will keep stock front bumper, but want to replace the rear...leaning towards the one...
XL80s (along with the other lights) have shipped, but not here yet... Went ahead and installed the SDHQ brackets:
These things are money baby...very solid mount!
Pro tip: remove the masking tape before snugging everything down... DAMHIK.
Also, the rubber trim around the cowl...
Wave of the magic ignore button wand...and “poof” less shit in the thread!
And thanks for getting us back on topic @solsurfr
OT: Didn’t plan to go to work today, but had to go in anyway. Nice back road commute on the weekend made me enjoy this truck (that OBTW I bought used, but $2K below...
Bump...update on the XLs?
XL80s for the SDHQ A-pillar mounts haven’t even arrived yet, and my son is already eyeing them for his Jeep’s front bumper!
Might as well start planning their replacement now! :deal:
Hell, I’m a new member and already have him on ignore. Unless one of y’all quote him, I literally can’t even see he posted.
Refreshing.
On topic: reminded again today that the only downside using this truck as a DD is the mileage...accumulated on the truck and the $ on fuel!
What am I looking at here? Other than a crap-ton of weights.... Either a really bad balance job, bad tire, or they didn’t line the red dot up on the valve stem.
Is that a crack in the rim?
I daily drive mine every other week or so...great commuter (well, except for the fuel mileage), if not as easy to park as my old commuter car.
Ride’s not as comfortable as my wife’s Grand Cherokee, but much more comfortable than my old pickup or my son’s moderately lifted (2” suspension lift...
:bowroflwerd6:
That actually happened to me today on the way home fromwork! Thought I saw another Raptor coming up fast behind me...turned out to be a dude with the DOOD grill.
Nice enough truck, but hilarious when he pulled up next to me, and literally revved his motor before flooring it...
