2018 75k miles, stock other than geisers/deavers.
Purchased one year ago with 49k miles.
No major repairs prior to my purchase, phasers done on my watch and only non-maintenance repair.
Driven hard under my ownership.
This is my truck with 3" geisers and +3 Deavers (non-HD).
Squatting hard due to 20k rounds of mixed caliber ammo, a dozen rifles/handguns and assorted accessories/armor, my mountain bike and the backseat packed to the headrests with clothes.
I opted on not towing my 18' fiberglass center console...
Initially, then it eventually became continuous. Wasn't terribly noticable when driving but at idle it drove me crazy. Dealer said its a common issue & that it wasn't covered under extended warranty so I went borla muffler/resonator combo.
I put a borla with x-pipe on mine and the ricer effect was unbearable, with resonance at 2-2500rpm.
Added borla resonator and at time of install it was silent, too quiet.
After 25k the truck sounds amazing inside and out, zero 'drone' and is perfect for me. Really comes alive at WOT.
Curious...
I just lock the plug in my console safe to avoid carrying it.
Mine is mounted lower on the kick panel and not obvious, and I don't have window stickers lol.
If you search, there's a solution to the battery dying problem that consists of a battery cable/terminal extension into the passenger wheel wheel. I'm going to do the passenger handle swap myself soon.
My truck just came back from phaser service.
Round 1: waited 3 weeks for next available appointment. Process described as they open it up then order parts, which arrive next day. Total job 3 days, so I made arrangements for truck to be there full week.
Friday of that week, after speaking to...
I've put 20k miles on my 2018 since I bought it in Jan '22.
Other than the cam phasers developing the rattle, just replaced and silent again, truck has had zero issues.
I’ve got about 10k miles on an s-type with the borla resonator.
At initial install (after stock xpipe was too ricer for me) exhaust was silent. Too quiet, but at least the rasp and the drone you describe were gone.
Now the truck sounds great at idle, WOT and at cruising speeds. No drone.
Originally it was an awkward transition from previous owners habits.
I brought it in for cam phasers and they reflashed it.
Felt like terrible when I got it back* but feels phenomenal now as I gave it the spurs during the relearning process.
*Just dropped again for phasers. I repo’d it last...
When I bought my 18 used, sport mode had a lot of quirks as the previous owner (based on computer MPGs) drove it really easy.
Sport is my default mode and I drive it like a rental. All the quirks have disappeared and it shifts great etc now.
When I bought my used 2018 the computer MPG was 18.5.
Pretty sure the previous owner drove mostly 2 lane rural roads at 55mph.
After 12k miles over last 4 months, mixed suburbs/hwy, it’s settled at 13.8 lol.
Tires at 32, 85mph cruising speeds and heavy foot.
