After a patient 6+mo wait :\ my 2017 802a Scab finally arrived….
Wheels/Tires
I’m a Toyo MT fanboi, but had been eyeing these Mastercraft’s a while now to consider shedding some rotating mass. Mastercraft MXT 35x12.5x17 E load, Method Mesh Wheels, OMF Bash Rings w/ Black Hardware, and Chief Machining Billet Centercaps
Either Method changed the depth of the wheel lip on the Mesh Wheel compared to their ‘Standard’, or the Mastercraft bead lip differs significantly to the Toyo MT. This was a partial bummer, as the OMF rings sat flush with tire bead on a method standard with Toyo. With the mCrafts, the rings are 100% exposed :\ So will see if it’s the Mesh or Toyo that’s different… Atleast the edge is flat, as opposed to a NV/Grid/DS which has a chamfered edge.
Vinyl/Tint
My ’12 was ridden with pinstripes, and since I started fresh with this truck decided to wrap from the start. Always wanted to wrap my Gen1 in Matte Grey. Was thrilled to see magnetic offered on the 17s, this way I could wrap it with something slightly different and it would blend well in the jambs doors etc.
Changed original plan slightly, and went with a 3M 1080 Satin Dark Grey instead. We used some Avery Satin Black accents on the roof, tailgate, hood, and headlight buckets. The guys also wound up ceramic coating it with GTECHIQ Crystal Serum for some extra rock and tree branch protection. For tint, did 20% Ceramic on the front windows to match the OE rear, and trialing 80% ceramic on the windsheild… guess I’ll see how that goes on the first night run :/ Lastly did some various APA tinting on the clear section of the rear taillights and 3rd brake section.
Found a guy on eBay, he uses OEM emblems and paints to suit… Black and Magnetic. Gloss black didn’t blend great with the rest of the truck, so we did Xpel Satin Clear Bra over it to better match. Left a gloss ring to accent.
All in all, really turned out awesome. This satin really makes the body lines and bulges more pronounced
Handles are really a work of art...
Hood Accent
Headlight Buckets
Grill
Tint tails
Emblem
Original in gloss
Satin Xpel overlay
Hope to dive into some more over the weekend… Have a pile of parts eager to get bolted up
