What's the Best way to break in a new Truck?

Hi,
I know we've all had our dads/moms tell us how to break in the new vehicle but what is the consensus out there? Many of us just got a new Raptor and want it to run good forever, what's the secret?

the secret is to find the nearest wide open dirt space, preferabbly rough , add about 5 lbs of lead to your right shoe, and book an appointment with a massage therapist, cause after you have driven the raptor wide open and hard all day the truck will be fine and ready for many more years of fun, then you can go to get your face massaged cause of the big grin you have stuck with and sore cheek muscles

but seriously, these vehicles do not need any special breakin these days theyre ready to go from the dealer, just stay on your oill changes as needed etc and have fun

From the owner's manual:

BREAKING-IN YOUR VEHICLE
Your vehicle does not need an extensive break-in. Try not to drive continuously at the same speed for the first 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of new vehicle operation. Vary your speed frequently in order to give the moving parts a chance to break in.

Drive your new vehicle at least 1,000 miles (1,600 km) before towing a trailer. For more detailed information about towing a trailer, refer to Trailer towing in the Tires, Wheels and Loading chapter.

Do not add friction modifier compounds or special break-in oils since these additives may prevent piston ring seating. See Engine oil in the Maintenance

This is what I did. The break in these days has a lot more to do with the transmission and differential gear seats wearing in together more than anything else.

+1 what Kaiser said. I "broke in" mine by picking it up and immediately heading down to the desert for a few day trip. 20k on the clock now, and she's only getting stronger!

what about towing? owners manual says 1K before towing?

Not sure what you're asking warrior? Probably should follow the manual, and that means no towing for the first 1k...

don't beat the **** out of it, tow or let the engine sit at sustained RPMs for long periods of time for 1k miles. i changed the oil and flushed a quart through around 3k and switched to synthetic.

I drove it like I stole it but I changed the oil and filter out three times in the first 3000 miles.

My 5.4L runs very strong and I have had no issues whatsoever in 13,000 of ownership.

OK, Best Way to Break in this truck???

Ok, as you all know, I'm headed to El Paso tomorrow to pick up my SCrew! :peace:

It is about 1400 miles back home.

I'm a novice when it comes to this but what would the best way to drive home as far as speed, cruise, start/stop, etc?

I've been told vary the speed, jump on the throttle quite a few times and so forth. They tell me that if I break it in like a kitten, my RAPTOR will always be a ***** (cat). If I beat on it, it will always be a monster...

Thoughts?
