My Raptor is now at the Ford Service Center. It had to be towed there.

First happened over last weekend. One key fob wouldn't unlock the doors. I grabbed the other one and it worked. I have been using that one since. Today the 2nd key fob would not start the truck! Tried repeatedly, waited, tried again. It would not lock, unlock or start the truck. The computer display said "Starting system fail" or something like that. I called for warranty tow. Tow truck driver showed up and tried. Same results. He tows it to the Ford dealer and tried it again...IT WORKED. In the meantime I drove home and picked up the other key fob. Tried it at the Ford dealer. IT WORKED! :flipthebird:

Anyways. I talked to them about the "CLUNK". They said they had some Rangers that did that. They used a different grease on the slip yoke and none of them ever returned for service. Now they are going to do that to mine. /beavis&butthead I am getting my yoke lubed..heheheheheheh

Any ideas about the keys not working? Only mod on the truck currently is the Nav+ (which hasn't ever worked right and have my installer doing his homework now to figure out WTF is wrong with it)

So did the truck not even start by manually turning the key in the ignition? Do you park in an area where a lot of radio wave pass around? I'd check the battery in the fob first like Ducati suggested.

when you stick the key in the ignition and attempt to start the vehicle I'm assuming it is no crank/ no start. Does your theft light start to flash rapidly?

My Viper remote start has done that a few times - won't start the truck with the key. I found that by locking and unlocking the doors it fixes it.

Both keys on a month old truck?

Correct...Wouldn't start manually with the key and the key fobs would not do anything. The instrument cluster just flashed the start system fault message. I didn't notice the theft lights. All the electronics turned on including the radio.

This was our guess.

Sometime's it's best to start at the simplest step. The truck might be a month old but I guarantee the batteries aren't. If it wont start manually then it's not the batteries anyways (thats why I asked). The transponder chip is not powered by a battery (a capacitor in the key is charged when an electrical field [in the lock cylinder] is collapsed across windings [in the key] every time you turn the key on) only the remote runs off the batteries.

It sounds like its an issue with the reciever or theft deterent system like Bird and jd suggested.

sprsnk, just a simple question and may be totally irrelevant, but are the keys on a ring with anything else. Like a key card or something with a magnetic strip. I had a customer once that had an ID card that had a magnetic key code strip on her key ring and when it was too close to the tranciever it would cause a no start condition similiar to yours.

Nope. The Raptor key is by itself and not on my master key ring. I carry the key separately around and it does not even have a key ring on them. I thought of that too. It'll be interesting to see what the Ford dealer comes up with tomorrow.
