Today I installed a 48" tool chest made by Promaxx. I've had the Bakbox for a year and it fell down recently so I started searching for a better solution. I came up with this and thought I'd share since I haven't seen anything like this on here.

Step 1: Measure and drill holes. Note the fuel filler neck just under the bed a few inches from where I drilled the holes.

Screw drivers showing where the holes are:

Step 2: Bolt tool box to the bed. I ran the bolts through from the bottom to protect the treads and locking nuts. I got stainless steel 3/8" hardware, locking nuts, washers and rubber washer between the tool box and the bed.

Step 3: Load it up with all my shit! I've got a 3 ton jack, traction ladders, tools, tow rope and other misc. stuff. I'm surprised how much I got in there.

Finished!!! The lid does not open 90 degrees because of the bed cover but I have plenty of room to get everything in and out without being mounted against the wall of the bed. I also coated the bolt heads under the bed with bed liner.

Looks good. I've seen one other member pic with a similar setup but haven't been able to find it. I'd like to do this as it's nice to have a little toolbox like that.

I keep a 48 gallon action packer strapped to roughly the same spot under my folding cover. Not as well secured, but in a way that's a good thing because if I need to haul something big I can have it out in 30 seconds and throw it in the cab. I have the same problem with the lid not opening all the way but it works well enough.

I like this box though, I'd like to figure out a way to do this box but with a "quick release" for if I need the bed space.

I thought about some type of rail or quick release mount but decided it would be a lot of work and I really don't haul enough stuff to fill up the bed. The way I installed this box, you could probably unbolt it in less than 30min. I like it because it has a ton of space, everything is secure and it's a clean install.

My bakbox didn't like off-roading either. Looking for a good solution, really like this one.

I'll take a look on the inside of the box tomorrow and give you the part number. I ordered it locally through Ziebart. I believe this is it in the link but in black. I think this is the right description.

ProMaxx 48-inch Tool Box Chest with Wedged Bottom - Black (48L X 24W X 20H) Universal Part Please Measure Your Application
SKU: TC48WB

I was set on getting the 55" UWS wedge but ended going this route since I have the bed cover and I'm happy with it. I think it's not as tall as the UWS so I can mount the tool box further back in the bed and still be able to open the lid with the Bakflip. There is enough room on each side outside the chest to set a fuel can too. I wish I would have done this sooner, much better than the Bakbox and holds twice as much stuff!

ProMaxx is a "house" brand of Meyer Distributing who is wholesaler. So, just call your local truck accessory stores and ask for ProMaxx.
