My truck is staying leaf springs. I plan to start building another truck in a year or so that will be J arms and links. ( and no, I have no intention of selling my raptor when I build the new truck).


I was actually referring to keeping the back half as you currently have it, but with the exception of tying the top hoop of the interior cage to your bed rack/frame rails for some additional stiffness. Though I guess that may not be necessary?

Either way, enjoying the build!

the only reason i'd need to tie the two together would be for triangulation if I were linking the back of the truck. ( upper coilover and shock mount triagulation) Else- not much reason to do it.

I also will retain the ability to completely remove the bedcage, even if it is a bit of a chore. ( the bed cage is tied into a bunch of different things, including the rear bumper, so removing it takes a bunch of work and either 3-4 people, or a forklift.)

Are you going to 40 spline axles with the 10” or sticking with 35?

I'm running the competition 35 spline ARB and 300m 35 spline axles.

Going to a 40 spline ARB would require going to a 3.812" case.

it would also mean having to get custom front spindles made, change out the alcon brakes, new wheels, and change out the rear hubs, as no one makes a 40 spline 6x135 set of rear hubs.

and if I were to go through changing out all of that, I'd honestly go to 36 spline TT bolt pattern and a spool.

going to 40 spline would run me somewhere around $18K-$20K. Not really interested in spending that .

Have you ever broke a 35 spline axle? High end 35’s are pretty rugged.

I have not, which is another reason that bumping up to 40 spline or 36 spline doesn't really make sense to me at the moment.

I'll most likely buy a set of spare axles, a spare hub, and set up a spare third member with a spool. Once I buy them, I have no doubt that they'll all sit in the chase truck perpetually.

Pretty much what I was getting at. But I wasn’t sure if you had any previous breakage to force you to upgrade. Your plan makes sense.

10:4, I was just curious. I also just re-geared and stuck with a 9” ring gear and kept the 35 splines. Awesome build by the way!!!

Started getting some parts in, so it's time to clean first. ( polished 5.14s, bearings, LP6s on the way, new wheels ( finally going beadlocks, fresh set of tires, Larger Lowrance, and a few other odds and ends)

If I'm being honest, this year, with covid and all, I hadn't really done much to clean my truck beyond spraying it off with a power washer....once.

So, for the past few days, I've been hitting the truck with a foam cannon and powerwasher, plus scrubbing it down a few times as I prepare to start fixing/changing things.

but, because I was lazy, I'm going to have to disassemble some of the truck to scrape and paint it again.

I get asked a lot "how much travel?"

well, here's a pic of the "cleaning pose". there is about another 1.5" of droop left in the truck beyond where it sits in the pic.

She's gonna have a bold new livery for next year, as I'm gonna turn my dude PGNOLA loose with the wrap. Truck goes to spend time at his shop in Feb, just before I head to Baja again.
