I'm getting ready to purchase and install a Yaesu FT-7900R in my truck, but I have no idea what dual band antenna I need to buy. I am going to mod the radio so I can transmit on race frequencies (150.00-157.00) and I would like to be able to receive and transmit on 440 also. Does anyone have a suggestion on what is a good dual band antenna for this radio? I would like to have a shorter antenna than is what is on my FT-1900 and have it permanently mounted on the roof.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to go with the Comet SBB-1. Now I just need to figure out a clean factory looking mount. I would like to have a through the roof mount, but I'm not too keen on drilling through something that keeps water out of the truck...

And, what about the FT-8900R? My inner redneck would love to have CB capabilities.

If my memory serves me right, I believe the FT-8900 is FM on 10 meters only.
So, forget about the 11 meter AM band. Unless they've changed that.

It may seem daunting but it's not that bad. Cake some silicone around the bottom and you'll be fine. Get a cap for it when you don't have the antenna on. That creates a real good seal around the mount itself and the antenna also creates a seal around the mount.

The 8900 will not, 10m FM only which really sucks because 90% of people are on side band. Also 10m is gonna be dead for another 11 years till the next cycle. The FT-857 will after you mod it. Not a cheap radio if you buy it new but can be found used on qrz.com or ebay.
