Might depend on who you shipped with. UPS and FedEx both started charging by weight and volume earlier this year. Reason given was they needed to account for the amount of space taken up in their vehicles not just the weight they were shipping. Amounted to huge cost difference on some things. Worst is shipping something bulky and light. Used to be inexpensive but can cost a lot based on package dimensions now. Makes using freight companies a lot more attractive now. Really sucks since you were giving half the money to charity if I recall.
