The aftermaket wheel is largely targeted to the customer who wishes to personalize his vehicle. Functionality is usually a secondary consideration, and often times sacrificed.
Clearly, chosing a wheel with less backspace will give the vehicle a wider stance, which would add some positive functionality.
Another functionality opportunity would be to go with a lighter wheel than stock.
I would not be in the market for a heavier wheel than the stock one. In fact, I'd be looking to save at least 4 to 5 pounds a wheel.
