I am sitting here surfing the net with my KBC Widow Maker, Nimrods hat, and remote control Raptor. If I was watching a Jeff Daniels movie, I'd had all my bases covered.

You should be rocking a Hemitites hat after their win last weekend! I believe the Snoball will go through Ishpeming too so representing both Ish and Watersmeet would fit in perfectly. :waytogo:

Blue & Todd, you bring up a great point. I work in the oilfield and for the most part preach about "safety culture." One thing that is brought up over & over is "stop work authority" in short it means if unsafe practices are observed anyone and I mean anyone has the right and the obligation to stop said unsafe act before someone is harmed or damage occurs. Personally i feel this run should be no different. Everyone participating on this run has the right and obligation to speak up and put a stop to an unsafe act. The goal here is to get everyone to the end and have a good time doing it. Some of us have less off-roading/cold weather experience than others and will be looking to the more experienced for help... point is we work together and work to keep each other safe.

I'll get off my soap box now! ;)

Kanakry & World Tour

I know we have a busy schedule Friday night & Sat morning but might it be worth while to set up a quick 15 - 20 min review of safe recovery procedures for the group B4 we head out? Sounds like we might have enough new people between drivers and Co-drivers that a quick how to demo might be good.

What do you guys think? I'd even volunteer to help put it together, though I reserve the right to recruit others fire help.

I'd be in for that. The last time I had to get out something that was stuck was probably 10 years ago when I pulled my Cherokee out of a corn field with a tractor.

I definitely think it is a good idea to use/practice before we reach any one track trail and have a chain reaction of stuck vehicles.

Agree, what you have in mind. I have a winch, used it twice, and already see areas for improving myself...

I think Donk said we should do a recovery safety briefing. I agree, but let's do it once we get into the forest. We'll probably be stopping for pee breaks and scouting, so let's plan a 10 minute recovery demo out there. Just a thought.
Todd

on the trail is a great idea, brakes up the important stuff.

I am considering also bringing an AED along with us, because of all the old farts!

Does this mean I'm on the younger end of the crowd at 26 and my Dad at 53 wont be "that old guy" like he is when he'd come with me to Import events?

So an example would be:

Stock Raptor 6280 lbs
Stuck frame deep
On 30 grade

6280lbs x 3 = 18,840lbs + 3140lbs = 21,980 lbs or 10.99 tons of force to move the stuck Raptor!

Or more realistic example

Stock Raptor 6280lbs
Stuck wheel deep
On 15 grade

6280lbs x 2 = 12,560lbs + 1570lbs = 14130lbs or 7 tons of force to free stuck Raptor.

There is a LOT of force during vehicle recoveries.. Something to think about and not take lightly!

You might have an extreme bubba rope with a breaking strength: 131,500 lbs. If you are hooking it up with costco shackles or even warn 4.3 ton shackles. You are going to have a bad day with either of the above examples.

Just more happy things to think about..
