So I was using my tailgate as a work bench whilst I changed the oil in a small generator. As you can imagine, some oil spilled and while I was cleaning I noticed that the plastic cover on the inside if the tailgate had worn away some of the paint along the lower edge. I can't be the only one that has had this. Any thoughts on how to prevent rust while at the same time prevent that plastic thing from doing the same damage.
Honestly this is exactly why I don't like plastic drop in bed liners. They move ever so slightly and can damage the paint. I guess I figured we probably all have this tailgate one and didn't think it would move enough to cause damage.
Barring a great idea from someone on here, I'll probably pull the plastic crap, clean it up and get some do it yourself bed liner on there. That should protect the exposed metal and make it harder to wear through.
Any thoughts or experiences are appreciated.
