Speaking of noise, me and my buddy jumped in his car, I think it was a 1965-ish Buick Electra, 200k on the clock, named mescalito. This was around 1976. We were heading up to SUNY Binghamton to get viscously drunk in the on campus Rathskeller, and visit a buddy who went to school there. We accomplished both.
On the way home we heard a NOISE, a banging from under the hood. So as @Nex showed, we turned up the cassette, ever louder.
Until a loud release of pressure and we skidded to a stop in the middle of the night on a deserted stretch of highway. It was freezing.
Two pistons had shot through the oil pan. Had we put oil in it probably wouldn’t have happened. lol.
About an hour later a car finally came by, took my friend to make a call, and drove him back. Another hour goes by and Tiny, can’t make this up, from the only service station within miles, comes and tows us. We sleep in the car, drunk and frozen. My friend gives Tiny the car to pay for the tow.
His parents were vacationing that weekend in the Catskills. They come get us. We then wreak havoc in the hotel. We had no money. We sit on the ledge of the fountain in middle of lobby and reach in and grab rusty coins. We then go in and drop the rusty coins on counter in coffee shop and order food.
