Where to ground the sub amp

Hey guys. My MTI behind the seat sub should be here Monday and plan to spend tomorrow getting the JL amp wired up and prepped. I’ve already run 4 gauge power from the battery up to the rear seat through the plastic panel under the rear seat.

Question is can I get ground inside the truck where one of the bolts was to mount the B&O amp rack or do I need to go to the chasis for ground.

Done plenty of install in the past but never on an aluminum body truck.

battery ,most of the grounds in the truck r rated. i grounded both my amp and nav tv to the battery

if you dont want to go to the battery, there is a factory ground on the back wall about halfway up on either side of the truck.

not that i habe seen. most are around 2ohm. but it does vary between vehicles.

Used the rear wall. Worked out just fine.

For the ground, the proper way is to have less than 1 ohm of resistance back to the battery. On the rear wall (Factory Ground Point), you will see from 0.5 to 10ohms. Why is that? Well, these trucks are glued together, and depending on the age of your truck, the incline it's on or if it's moving down the road, it will change.


If you want to ensure it's done right, go to the battery for the ground. If you enjoy inconsistencies and hours of your life wasted on troubleshooting, you can try the rear wall. The cheaper the gear, the less susceptible it is to a bad ground. Good equipment, it will hate life with the factory ground point.
