New-ish to the forum, Threads are all over the place about best mods Etc.

I wanted to start this as build thread but also take some advise and recommendations. Ive got a 17 Avalanche White 802A with Tech pkg but am a glutton for power and as mush as i have will never be enough.

Im about to pull the trigger on ADD PRO bumper and this requires the Intercooler relocation. I think they price them around 1500 for the IC...That looks a small bit higher than others ive seen but probably worth it for quality and fitment with the new bumper.

But why stop there? May as well do a tuner and intake as well, right? Ive decided on BurgerTuning for their JB4...great service, great product, used them on my 335 and loved the performance and ease of use.

Here is where my question comes in...there are literally 50 different intakes to pick from with about as many numbers representing increased airflow. I like the AFE products, and in general more volume/flow = more better right? But, is there a bottleneck downstream of the intake that would inhibit all that extra flow? Im confident the new IC can handle more than stock. Is it worth the few hundred extra to go from any Corsa/S&B/et. all. to say the AFE Magnum force that flows a boatload more than most others?

Thanks for any input. I look forward to getting this going.

TL:DR

What are best Intake options; most critical to flow?

The bottleneck you are looking for is inside the baby KO4 turbo housings. Any "cold air intake" on a 3.5 HO ecoboost is going to make some noise and provide some weight reduction--to your wallet.

If you're swapping out the intercooler for an elevated/relocated unit, COBB is the best largest unit available and will fit with the ADD PRO Frame Cut bumper.

If you're going to do a package deal, the COBB Stage 2 Kit would work well. Plus, when you package it all up, the Cold Air Intake is one of the least expensive available. The only unit less expensive unit is the S&B unit, which features a plastic construction vs the mandrel-bent aluminum of the COBB kit.

That said, if you've committed to the JB4 which is a piggyback tuner not a full ECU tune like the COBB, then you would lose the package savings of the COBB Stage 2 Kit.

As far as the bottleneck, the biggest bottleneck on these trucks is the intercooler, which you're already addressing.

If you like aFe Power intakes, go with them. They're nice eye candy under the hood, sound good, and have an increased flow rate over stock. Just don't expect huge gains from any intake.

We can put a full package together for you for your bumper, intercooler, lights, and any performance gains you may be interested in to finish your truck off. Please let us know if we can help.

Has anyone heard of or used Mountune and their intercoolers? I am thinking of getting an intercooler, was going to go with Cobb or Mishimoto intercooler until I saw the mountune. Any feed back will be helpful.

Mountune makes a quality product and they’re a solid company. They’ve worked hand-in-hand with Ford and Ford Racing over the years.

We carry Mountune as well, in process of getting their products on our site actually. Be happy to go over options with you on them.
