what's this under hood wire for??

no not yet ran out of time and had to leave for work. but from what i've read it's for the 3rd break light might of even found it in the manual.

Copy, I'm getting my topper installed tomorrow, maybe I should wait to have the lights wired until we can positively ID the wire termination.

I did a little digging and found this on an F-150 forum. It looks like it's in the same location, but a different color. But this thread is from 2011, so the color could have changed over the years: Third brake light wire. - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums

Well, would you guys ask the topper installers to run the 3rd brake light wire from the termination in the engine compartment or let the tap into the harness where they always do.

i don't like taping into harnesses i gives water a place to enter the wire and cause problems. i would use the wire in the engine bay. but then again i'am kind of **** when it come to wiring.

I agree, that's what I will see if they can do, they need to run a power wire from the battery anyway for the topper led interior lights. So maybe they can bundle them up and run them to the back.

I would definitely recommend running it to the hood off of a dedicated wire. I only tap into wiring when it is the only viable option. And make sure they use wiring loom/conduit to protect your wiring from the elements.
