My vette is 11 years old, original owner paid 47K, its currently worth about 18 to 20K
Z06?

well, whats a 16 year old Ford Lightning worth?

$4500?
This is the reason I posted this thread, I know some Lightning are worth 10-15K, but they are few and far between. I can't begin to tell you how many I have seen in the 4-8K range when I was looking for my new build(Sport Trac). Yes they are driven hard, but a engine swap is not difficult. Besides the truck will be built when he get's it anyways, so what's a drive train swap at that point, just have to plan ahead :).

Well my truck is 18k and almost 1 year now, and my interior is still top notch showroom quality. I literally detail the whole interior every week (this is the ocd in me). If its raining like it is now, for the whole forecasted week, it gets cleaned everyday. Dirty interiors bother me. What I'm saying is if you can find a "limited edition" (raptor) vehicle that in 5 or 10 years still when you look at it looks like it just left the showroom, wouldn't that be worth a lot?

these trucks will be worth the same as a regular f-150 + maybe 3k retail in the next 10 years. let's face it...as cool as they are new, they will be a hassle and a money pit used.

It all depends on the truck. One with low miles and first production run low serial # will be worth quit a bit, daily drivers not so great. It all depends on how bad a collector will want one and want to pay.I think allot of them will get totaled trashed ,turned into race trucks and prerunners that in it self will help. I have bought and sold quite a few SVT vehicles and made money on all of them. Most of the time its finding the right buyer.I will use my truck but its not be a DD, sooner or later I will sell it I wont get what I paid but I will bet you money it will be close.

OK ill be the ******* here..... A.I.I. just tell your brother to buy (or steal :p) a Raptor and then garage keep it till your kid is 16, i mean he can afford it!!! :ROFLJest:

but otherwise, im sure most Raptors will be beat to shit and can be had at a pence, or youll have have the ones that were driven only on weekends and are near showroom, and they will want more then its worth.

According to KBB, my '99 Lightning is worth about $9K. It's in very good condition but it has lead a pretty pampered life.

I hope in ten years I have to just walk away from my beat-to-death Raptor after it's last run across the desert......:birgits_tiredcoffee

2027? Will they still have gas then?

Unless you have a garage to keep that beast, you'll likely trade it in for something better in a few years... then again, I've been through 10 cars and 3 motorcycles myself in the past 10 years since I got married... I've never kept a car more than a couple years.

I bought a 2007 Atomic Orange Z06 that I babied as my every-other-weekend-sunny-day-driver... in 2 years, I put 4100 miles on it. My plan was to give it to my son "mid-20's" as a wedding present.

Stuff happens in life... I sold the car to save $$$ to buy a Lamborghini... then the wife wanted the extra $$$ to re-do the kitchen... then I bought a BMW M6, then a Porsche 911... then some Land became available that I NEEDED a major 4WD vehicle to access... sold the Porsche, etc...

I now drive a Raptor as my daily driver...

My point, is not to brag on all the cars I've had, but to point out that as a new daddy we all have grand intentions for out kids... but life changes in the blink of an eye.

I'd say, if you want a Raptor now for yourself... get it, but don't necessarily plan on giving it to your child... If you want to trade it in on a newer Raptor or something else in a few years, do it! Buy someone else's 16 year old raptor off Ebay when he's hold enough!

And as I said, 16 years from now... you might not be able to afford a vehicle that gets 10-12 mpg's... hahaha.

Congrats on the baby BTW.

AND FWIW... I don't think a Ford Raptor should be any 16 year old's first vehicle!

Too much power, center of gravity is high, and it can be a difficult vehicle to maneuver for a novice driver...

Several years ago when we first moved to N. Georgia, we lived in my wife's father's apartment while our house was being built... curvy roads, rainy afternoon... some 16 year old kid took the curve too fast, spun his truck 180 and hit the telephone pole in the yard tailgate first! He tried driving off, but I ran outside and told him to stop.... "Why I gotta stop? I'm okay!".... I pointed to the 12" telephone pole split at the bottom (only thing holding it up was the electric wire above it)...

Not long after the sheriff arrived, his daddy shows up and says... "This is a father's worst nightmare, to hear his kid's been in an accident..."

I can relate, my son was less than a year old at the time... then his daddy says "He just turned 16, and I bought him this new F150 for his birthday..."

Well, this new F150 had a nice CatBack Exhaust on it, and a 6" lift kit with big 'ol muddin' tires!

I'm thinking "Who gives a 16 year old a massive truck like this as their first vehicle"?

I think something like 60% of all kids will wreck their first vehicle before they're 21.... unless your son grows up on the farm driving your truck since he was 12...

I mean you no disrespect, but you might actually be endangering your son's life by giving him a vehicle he's not able to fully control as a novice driver...

I'm not telling you what to do, YMMV, but my son will be getting a rusted out 10 year old Honda/Camry for his first vehicle (and I'm a doctor and can afford any new car I want for him).

Just wanted to offer you something to at least think about....
