That's another one that doesn't float my boat. Nice cars for sure, but I hate hate hate all things Toyota. Will never by one, even if it's literally the best car on the planet for the cheapest price. Just not my cup of tea. Clarkson's obsession with the LFA is a total mystery to me. I think it's ugly, like all Toyotas.

well....sure as hell sounded good then & now (the LFA) - but forget bout an M3 being a high price point relative to “value”- or strictly performance #s in its competitive segment- I honestly can’t think of a more overrated/overpriced/unnecessarily applauded vehicle in modern times. It ain’t even like Toyota had some lineage they were cribbing off & just hyping up the badge a la some Porsche cars. Nope. Toyota had no business thinking about producing a $500k car, let alone actually trying to sell one. Forget about the fact that the thing got its ass handed to
It by an actual *** supercar for a fraction of the price (along w/ Porsche’s, vettes, Ferrari’s etc- pretty much anything it was trying to “compete” with)

very odd move by them...almost as odd as telling everyone you’re finally bringing one of (if not THE) most heralded vehicle they ever produced finally in the Supra, only to not really even design shit, farm out the bits that matter all to BMW, & then opt out of giving it a manual tranny despite the fact you can get one in the bimer version.

I’ll run contrary to most on this thread. I just don’t like the Raptor V6 sound. It’s the main thing I don’t like about my 2019 Raptor. Rest of the truck is so awesome, though, I overlook(over-listen?, Haha) the sound. The performance is there, especially the torque.

I won a National BMW driving competition in a new M3 Competition and it’s a very capable car and the exhaust wasn’t awful sounding as I think it has an improved exhaust in the competition model, but it’s not the beautiful, pure straight six engine sound like the old E36 M3 or even the new B58 engines like in the new M340i. Those engines rip and sound sweeter to me than the M3 mill.

. ;)
you mean a M3 with the competition package? I didnt think they badged the M3 with that , yet. like the M2 competition or M5 competition.

national competition ? was this an autcross ? CCA club racing ?

aren't all the new BMW's and the V6tt Raptor all fake sound piped through the stereo?

They said it was the M3 with a competition option package. I could be saying it wrong. We also got to drive the M2 and M4.

A few years ago BMW did this thing called Ultimate Driver Challenge. 30,000 people competed from around the country in an auto cross deal and the top person from each city got flown to California at Thermal for a Finals competition. The winner was crowned the BMW Ultimate Driver. Haha. It was pretty awesome.

I have a M4 and imo even though it's a TT like the Raptor it sounds significantly meaner than my Raptor. A cold start on Sport+ brings a smile to my face. The Raptor...well as much as I love it doesn't sound anything close!

cool nice driving. I've been to Thermal a couple times. I competed in that Ult driver thing, beat everyone in my tent by 1.9 sec but I clipped a cone. out! we won a M-roadser in the BMW CCA raffle in 96 and got flow back to spartenburg!

sounds like we need a BMW m car sub-forum on here!

I had a couple E36 and also two different E46 M3s and like the first and second gen Raptors, there's stuff I like about both. My second E36 had some engine work, cams, injectors, tune, intake, throttle body and a Borla exhaust and was one of the most enjoyable cars to listen to that I've driven. (My 2017 Shelby GT350 takes the top spot as it was glorious from 5,000 to 8,250 rpm!). Also the E36 felt much more light and nimble compared to the E46 but the E46 was faster apples to apples. I also liked the way the E46 looked more muscular than regular 3 series cars, I don't think it ever sounded as good but I thought it looked much better.
Point is I really love my gen 1 but I think the grille/headlight/front end of the Gen 2 is so much more badass looking. I like the V8 sound of mine, want to add the Borla Touring cat back as I think it sounds better, but I would like to have the Gen 2 hp and torque. I didn't think twice about buying mine with 86K on the odometer, not sure if that same feeling will be there for a close to 90K mile Gen 2?
And to other's points, I don't look for the same things from my Raptor. First, compared to any sports car worth its salt, the Raptor is a handling PIG. All the things that make it great off road make it an awful handling vehicle...when compared to a sports car. Compared to previous pickup I owned, it's not so bad and I certainly don't drive it like I drove the M3s or the Shelby.
In the end, I am fortunate to have had some cars and trucks I really loved and that put a smile on my face every time I drove them, is the Raptor in that category with me? Not yet, but I do really like it and I think a little bit of tweaking to the exhaust note will do wonders in that area as I would gladly trade hp for sound in a pickup, to a degree in the sports cars too.
Sadly video of track time in the E36 was lost in basement flood a while back; have short clip of my last E46 after installing an "El Diablo" muffler https://photos.app.goo.gl/EnQ4XdufZvGU62a27

Yeah the Supra thing is bizarre. Toyota just doesn’t understand car culture at all IMO. I hate every car they make.
