I still remember reading an article in USA Today back in 2009 about this new truck coming out called a Ford Raptor. I ordered one sight unseen a loved it from day one. We had a crap load of adventures across the country together. When the Gen 2s came out, the attraction was not the same and I needed to wait a year before I could deal with the idea of the 6 banger under the hood.

I had a Gen 1 for 6 years and a Gen 2 for 2 years now. I hope I can get a Gen 3, but that's up to Ford. My requirements are pretty simple as I only require two things; a V8 and a scab. Both of which are still unknowns.

I think it's already common knowledge that the Gen 3 Raptor will be going to a 5 link set-up, which is great and no more weak link leaf springs so I'm not concerned about the suspension, Ford has already proven they and Fox are on point in that category. I'm not a gadget/tech guy so I don't really care about those kind of options either.

The Gen 3 Raptor is a year or so out but I'm sure little tidbits of information will be released by Ford before then. For those looking to upgrade from a Gen 1 or Gen 2 or those looking to finally get a Raptor, what are your hopes/expectations/requirements for ownership of a Gen 3 and why?

Price is probably the most important factor. Regardless of improvements over the Gen 2, if it's going to cost 80k, then I will likely have to wait a few years.

The interior needs to exceed Gen 2. It looks like it will with the 12" screen, but based on the standard F150, I am not sure that everything else will be an improvement.

Exterior design, again going off changes to the F150s, doesn't look like it's much improved. Hard to say that will drive me to get one.

I don't think improved suspension will matter too much to me. I don't do much off roading, and could go aftermarket if I wanted to improve my Gen 2.

Feels like the available options would be the biggest factor. Seem likely we'll have a hybrid, and I want to see how that effects how fun it is to drive. I am not against a V8 option, but I suspect that MPG and added price will be too much for me personally. Particularly if I like powerboost.

Perhaps a sleeper reason will be how many they plan on producing. High production numbers will be better deals and greater chance for aftermarket availability.

I don't have room for two Raptors, so the only way my Gen 1 is leaving is if it gets traded in on a Gen 3, but it must have a v8 with hybrid option and be a scab, with luxury package and a moonroof. Otherwise I am quite happy to keep my Gen 1 looking as new as possible. My son wanted to use the garage yesterday and I wasn't home, the raptor was parked inside and I said you can move it out into the driveway if you want (along with a lot of #*&%$ and warnings), later that day he said "don't ever sell that truck, when I started it up, the whole garage shook with the sound of a v8", and he commented about how nice the interior is, etc. That is why I have kept it all these years myself, maybe I'm a dinosaur along with my Raptor, but I won't trade down for a v6 or an all electric vehicle, I will gladly trade my jeep for an all electric jeep though.

Honestly, wouldn't mind a return to a NA V8 like the 7.3L. Not going to be a dealbreaker for me, as I don't really care for crazy amount of HP in a truck I will offroad in trails/sand/mud etc. Give me a "simple" engine that has plenty of room to reach shit that hopefully an last 200k+ miles no issues*.

Curious on how the coils in the rear do. Definitely will sit back a few years and others find the limits of the ford design. Think Ford has it down pat but waiting for possible ways to beef it up to hit the market

Hopefully they keep the base model relatively cheap. While I'm aiming for a "801" trim, not a fan of the higher base for the Ram. Hellcat or not.

If it is an ecoboost hybrid, definitely will sit out a year+ to see the real world testing on it.

Interior tech I don't care too much for. Find lane assist, automatic braking etc unnecessary.

*TBD on 7.3L

I'm stoked about the rear coils already. A higher tow rating would be nice. I don't hate my 3.5 whatsoever BUT if the next one has the 7.3 then take my money please. Oh, and don't get rid of the 800A.

Don't want to get political but if Biden wins I won't be able to afford the gas so give me a hybrid. If Trump wins a solid v8 with active exhaust and a transmission that doesn't skip 3 to 4 gears at a time when I'm daily driving. A true 35 inch tire and an optional winch from factory would be cool too.
