It's just the guide for lowering the spare tire helps get the tool lined up you don't need it per say just makes it easier

Back in the late 1970's I spun wrenches for a living, a Vega comes into the shop, with a rattle, remember the Vega a true piece of engineering magic... Well anyway, I ended up using an air chisel to cut away an inner body panel and inside I found a small sardine can with a few pebbles inside and a note that read "I bet it took you a while to find this one". Back then the UAW and GM were not getting along well. So there may be a few minor things but when I think back to those days I am thankful that it is not sabotage from the factory.

You may want to try and get it locked back in there. It could make life easier changing a tire in the middle of the night.

I ripped mine out after seeing these posts, and plan to use it as a funnel to refill the exhaust flapper valve fluid. real PIA to keep full and the cold start rattles down. this should do the trick

alternatively may also use it to fix the rear fan/propower noise by directing the air flow toward the forum search button/tsb info.

So this was above the spare tire below the bed. It was giggling around up there so I pulled it out. Any idea what it is? Is it a guide to lower the spare? Only guess if so I probably should have left it alone
