I just saw the weapon X coils from sema. They claim 1-2hp per coil. They also use a different plug. If coils and plugs give me 8-15hp, I'm in!

Anyone tried these?

Someone should make a list of all of these cheaper mods. So much you can do for a few $$$.

Maybe I should say "probably won't void your warranty" mods. That's really what I'm looking for. I plan to keep this truck a long time and got the 100k mi extended warranty. When she blows, a 800hp Whipple kit will be hard to explain. Coils? Should be OK. :)

This great news to me. Been hoping someone would. There catalog site seems to be down for the entire month for maintenance. So I'll just have settle for idle speculation until next month.

Unless you are blown it probably is a waste of money. I never listen to HP claims as they are all pretty much smoke. But if you are blown with a better coil you have less chance of blow out and would not need to shrink the gap as much

Yeah they did say with a blower. I wish there was a comprehensive list of mods that actually helped and didn't have a strong chance of voiding your warranty.

Well now that the option exists, I asked my knowledge base and came away with "it's not worth it ". So until there is some significant positive experience presented, I'll just sit on the sidelines. Glad to know the products are out there though.

From our experience at JDM Engineering there are no aftermarket Ford Modular ignition coils that are worth anything more then paperweights after they are removed.

Time and time again we see companies come out with "hotter" ignition coils with promise of more power and better fuel economy over the factory units. These aftermarket coils usually do not last very long and cause more harm than good on performance applications. There have been numerous cases where cars and trucks came in with some brand of aftermarket coil with a misfire or some other issue that was resolved by installing a new set of factory Ford ignition coils.

If there was much to be had with a better coil we would be using something other then the OEM coils on our 1300HP Cobra Jets and Roush Yates would be using something better on their 24 Hour Daytona prototype Engines..but they are not. We both use OEM coils because there is nothing better for performance AND reliability.

Coils are a popular "snake oil" product because almost anyone can install these in their driveway and feel good about it.

Note: The proper way to combat ignition problems and or properly setup truck for high HP or boosted applications is with the correct heat range plug gaped accordingly. For boosted applications we use the NGK 6510 and gap them at .030.
