I found posts about the Warn Powerplant HD (that's the 12k version), but not much about the Powerplant HP (9.5k version).

On the "other" forum I found one comment from a guy who said he mounted the HP behind his grill, but he didn't provide much detail or visual evidence. I then contacted SDHQ and they told me they've installed the HP behind the grill, without modifications, using their Raptor winch mount plate; however it couldn't be done along with a 40" light bar.

Warn released a new product called the Powerplant 9.5, it is very similar to the Powerplant HP. I contacted Warn to find out their differences and here is what they said:

"The new Powerplant 9.5 is basically a updated version of the 9.5HP. We changed the finish from gloss to a matte black along with updating the contactor, TPD switch and changing to stainless fasteners"

Depending on price difference, I think I'm gonna go for a behind the grill Warn HP/9.5 with the SDHQ mount.

Also check out forum vendor 4The Truck they have the rogue racing bolt on winch plate that uses the factory tow hook mounting points and you don't lose your tow hooks

Thanks fellas, I'll definitely check out the Rough Country & Rogue Racing mounts. I didn't realize I may lose my factory tow hooks, want to keep those if I can.

I'm pretty sure you will not lose your recovery hooks with the SDHQ mount. Another thing with this mount is that it allows for mounting lights too.

I have the outlaw mount. I went with them because they used the thickest steel. I also added a WSI light mount so I could have the winch flanked with Whelen micro pioneers.

I know some others who are interested in stuffing a 12K lb winch in the bumper. So please keep us posted.

I don't think any of the winch mount plates eliminate the tow hooks. It would defeat the purpose of having the winch. What good is a winch if you have no place to attach the winch line?

It seems like there are a ton of options out there:
Rogue Racing
Rough Country
SDHQ
WSI

You will retain your factory tow hooks with the Rough Country mount as well. The SDHQ mount is a solid, well built mount, but the price is absolutely ridiculous.

GREAT LAKES RAPTOR EXCURSIONS

I like your setup Yukon. I'll be going with the 9.5k Powerplant. Haven't found anyone on here who's mounted one yet, seems like some speculation whether or not it will fit.

---------- Post added at 12:55 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:51 PM ----------

Reading through some jeep forums I've found 95% positive comments about the Powerplant's performance/ability. Negatives comments are it's cost, dependence on one unit for two functions, it's height blocking radiators on Jeeps in hot climates, and the fact that it comes with wire rope versus synthetic.

For my purposes I think the Powerplant will be perfect. The pain in the ass factor of installing two independent units is higher and I wheel on my own sometimes so I want a reliable winch which will be costly either way.

I found a good deal on the updated model but it won't be delivered until late Jan.

Happy Thanksgiving folks!

Sounds like a good set up to me. Yes please let us know about the power plant. Other are looking at similar set ups too. You could always change out the cable in the future.

Also, if your not on mid perch, you may want to consider it with the extra weight in the front.

Thanks for your advice Joe, I am already on mid perch.

Powerplant 9.5 comes with 125' of 5/16" steel. Need to do some looking around, but am wondering if a local shop might spool me synthetic and give me a hundred $ credit for the brand new steel they take off. Synthetic is the way to go (especially with a hidden winch), and it's safer. If I got stuck someday alone and my steel cable got bound up good I'd be pissed at myself. Worse off, if I snapped the cable and someone gets hurt I'd be regretful forever about mindfully sacrificing safety to save a couple/few hundred bucks. Add in the pain in the ass factor of steel over synthetic and the total amount of $ we pour into these trucks and I'm thinking why even mess around, make the swap right away and shave off a hundred with the trade.
