How do these 100w halogens compare to HID lights? Just the chinese Kragen hids? Not so much build quality but light output.

Yeah I ran Kragens on my FJ. Only complaint I had was that the lights take forever to warm up when its cold out. When I went to 55 Watt HID head lights they were pretty much useless.

Hmm, maybe just halogens might be the way to go. Especially when you have to turn them on and off a few times. Plus its nice to flash someone and have full power immediately.

That's what LEDs are good for

For long distance your best option will be either halogens or better yet hids. LED light bars are super bright and they work fantastic because there is no warm up time and have a very low amperage draw. What's important to pay attention to with LEDs is lumens(light output) with some light bars they may be a 40" bar but there output is somewhere in the 16000 range. I have some 20" bars that put out the same amount of light. Also, most raptors won't be able to out run a LED light bar at night. So they are the best choice for a lot of people.
