Hello all, I have a problem with some noise coming from my engine. Its a type of vibrating/grinding type of a noise. The noise will go away for a few minutes and the engine noise will return to normal… then the vibrating/grinding noise will return. I’m not particularly good at explaining it. So I have attached a video. So at approximately 1.44 minute mark the noise returns to normal. There are no error messages in my OBD2 scanner and no engine light on the dash.
The truck has 103k miles
At 100k miles, I replaced the spark plugs, the COP’s, leads and the serpentine belt and tensioner.
Not long after replacing the above the truck started idle rough, and sometimes stall when stopped at traffic lights etc.
At 103k miles, I replaced the PCV hoses, the PCV on bank 1, the elbow and hose on bank 2 and the canister purge valve. I did not have this vibration/grinding noise until I done the above. The truck spend most of December in the shop as I broke the front differential and was wanting on parts. Just got it back a few days ago.
EDIT 1
There doesn’t appear to be any performance issues with the truck - it still pulls like a train. The fuel economy is pretty much the same.
EDIT 2
In the video, there are no accessories running. No A/C. No lights. Nothing.
UPDATE 1
I decided to take the truck dune bashing this afternoon - I decided to try the “hell mend you” approach.
The truck performed excellent. It did start to misfire on cylinders 1,3,6 and 8. I was in really soft sand drifting putting the engine under a lot of stress. When I reset the engine light and stopped putting the engine under so much stress. It did not misfire again. The truck has never misfired before in the desert.
UPDATE 2
As suggested by 1BAD454SSv2 - I checked the hoses and canister. Hoses feel good. The canister vibrates like crazy when I disconnect the wire to the canister the noise stops. I will order another canister and replace the hose that attached to the canister as well.
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Duk.
