While I can see the convenience of having the freqs programmed why does it matter? I have used the mic to input a specific channel before without any issues. Is there something I'm not aware of?

Guess it depends on how often you change channels. There are 5 MURS channels that GLRE uses, and TRR has a ton. There's also NOAA weather radio you might switch among.

For the large GLRE events, we have different channels for each group. While our channel might be #3, I might switch to #4 to alert the group behind that we're stopped, or that someone is trying to get a hold of them because they have the chain saw or the winch. Tons of reasons I flip around, but whatever works for you is fine of course.

Thanks. Mine is programmed but I have used it to manually enter some other channels. Thought maybe there was more to it for having the channels programmed.

I just watched a video on adding new frequencies... I should have just bought a radio through PCI. Can they make it more complicated?? Lol. Not worth the money I saved.
