I should find somewhere to go test. From the example tests I've found I should be able to pass it pretty easy from the electronics/radio training I've had.

After I passed the tech they asked if I wanted to take the general, I said why not. I got w/in 2 questions of passing without even studying. Seems like it wouldn't be that hard to pass the general.

The ARRL site has a database of locations. Its offered pretty often.

Just took the test. Passed. Got 33 out if 35 questions correct.

Among the people in the room was a 70 year old woman, who passed and a girl that was probably around 15 who got a perfect 35/35.

They also asked if I would like I take the general. I took it and got 17 correct. Could easily pass that with a little studying.

So guys, it's easy.

I would be careful about taking your radio into Mexico without a licence. I know from yachting thats one of things checked when stopped by the Federal Officers.

How would they know in Mexico if your radio is licensed? Thousands of race vehicles and pre runners go down for the SCORE races, no one I know (including me) has ever had a problem.

How would they know a person has a license? Why would that be a problem? And finally it’s not a person that gets a license. It’s their company that does.

The same way they know you have a driver's license and insurance.
The VHF operator's license is on the list of items I keep on my boat when traveling into Mexican water.
The Mexican Federal Officers started cracking down on boats about 5 years ago.
You might be perfectly OK in a group or at a SCORE race, but its still illegal.
I was commenting on another reason to get your license.
