You are completely correct. One of the most important things IMHO when it comes to ride quality and road holding ability is the ratio of sprung weight to unsprung weight...
Which is why I'm very cautious about switching to tires that weigh ~20 lbs more each for the type of driving I do.
If I were mud bogging? The opposite might be true. Slightly heavier tires would likely be an advantage. And the better tread patterns are definitely an advantage over the stock Raptor tire in the mud.
