Merry Christmas!
So, here is my issue. I was trying to do some data logging this morning. I figured the streets would be empty and quiet. I wanted to see the results before I installed my IC, next week. My truck is a stock 2018 SCREW with 41k running MPT 91PRX.

After finishing my runs and not immediately after but 20 minutes later after normal driving on the freeway, I get on the surface streets and here like a grumble, rumble, rocks crunching from the motor area at low acceleration leaving the stop light. I heard this noise on two different occasions this morning. Once after 20 minutes of logging and normal driving and the second time 2 minutes later from logging.

A concerning thing I noticed on the freeway was I bounced all the way from 3-5 on the knock gauge. The 5 seem to be hit at speeds of 73-77 mph.

I did not receive any engine warning lights during logging or during the sounds in the engine bay. It almost sounds like I drove through a small section of gravel for a quick minute. My Ngauge doesn't show any knock during this noise either since it happens at a low acceleration speed.

Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

After further research I think it is the IWE. The noise sounds the exact same I have heard in other's videos.

just had the same thing happen to me. I would hear the rock crunching sound as well. I looked it up came up with iwe as well. Unfortunately when I took it to ford they could not get it to make the sound on multiple occasions. I finally got fed up and linked the ford service ttech a iwe post. I think its a 10 dollar fix. They finally did it and never had a problem since. Good luck!!!

yeah if it’s the check valve you can buy on your own from anywhere & swap out in under 10 mins no tools needed just hands & eyes lol

If you hear the noise again immediately switch to 4A and if it goes away yeah it's that dumb vacuum hose. FL3Z3A788B is the updated version I'd just replace it as it costs $20 and takes five minutes to change (watch a youtube video of somebody doing it).

The irony....I just started noticing this noise and after switching to 4a per this forum, the noise goes away. Only happens when the truck builds boost and goes away after boost returns to 0. I’ll give this replacement part a shot to see if it works, thanks!

Ya, it definitely was a coincidence. After i completed data logging, the noise was present and started to happen more often. I swapped the part out this morning and everything sounds all good, but I have not data logged since swapping the part. However, I did run 4A and the noise went away when I was trying to determine the noise.

Happy to report that this $20 part fixed my issue with this particular noise. 2 minute install, couldn’t be happier! This forum is awesome!
