turn factory front camera into dashcam?

Hi guys,

my raptor comes with the factory installed front camera... Was wondering if anyone has tried to turn that camera into a dashcam? It will be great to have that camera on all the time when driving and having the video get recorded into a DVR or a USB for viewing later... I know it's a lot cheaper just buying an aftermarket dashcam, but I want to keep the clutter on the dash down, and thought that maybe this could be an alternate solution.. Has anyone thought of this or attempted to do this?

Adding diodes to the connections, to prevent feedback to the OEM systems, should allow the use of the camera for other purposes?
