Transmission Failed on highway today

All things considered, $1500 out of pocket for the repair doesn't sound too shabby.

What kinda warranty (months/mileage?) are they gonna provide on the trans rebuild btw?

Found this the other day while searching for raptor Trans rebuild info first I've seen a after market shaft.

I would just let the dealer rebuild it and get back n the road. Then plan a upgrade rebuild at your convienence.

Mongiema - When the service manager referred to "MOTOR SPORT," he was talking about a Ford Racing part. Ford Racing Performance Parts was formerly called Ford Motorsport SVO and generally just referred to as Motorsport. With that said, I'm not aware of any heavier duty input shaft from Ford and I think he gave you a little line of BS about the Shelby Raptors using one... I could be wrong.

I might have to use this stuff when I eventually install a new oversized trans pan just based on it's name alone.

I'm not against tuners, but they adjust your transmission shift points and pressures and can definitely cause premature wear. Under normal driving the difference between a stock truck and a tuned truck is negligible, but those hard WOT tuner shifts are not a good thing for the life of the transmission... just don't do it every day and in my opinion the benefits of the tuner outweigh their disadvantages.



What perch adjustment are you on and how long have you been there?

I would assume so based on his description of when it happened. Heat is the #1 killer of a transmission, but that usually wears at the clutches and causes slipping. His problem sounds sudden which leads me to believe that possibly a single part just gave out. This does not work in the favor of not blaming the tuner. OP - Just out of curiosity, how did the dealer find out you had a tuner on the truck?

The dealer said they knew there was a "chip" on the truck. Im guessing they were able to see the ECU was altered when they hooked it up to the computer.

Also the truck is on the MIDDLE perch setting at both front and back. I had the front perch set to middle to (evening out the truck) about 5,000 miles ago I'd say

Just got the call from Ford. My transmission has been repaired and I will be picking the truck up this afternoon.

Yeah, I'd also like to know how the dealer knew the truck was tuned; whether they searched for it on their own or you told them.

They asked if it had a tune on it and also said they were also to see the ecu was altered right away when they did the diagnostics. They said they would work with me but they didn't think Ford would void the warranty because of the "chip". (But my truck was out of warranty..just over at 61,*** miles)

But the end result was Ford agreed to rebuild the transmission for an after warranty claim. I had to pay a $1,200 warranty deductible, another $200 something for the diagnostics and it came to around $1,550.
Ive had the truck back for about a week now. I kept it stock for the first few days but last night flashed back to the 93 octane performance tune.
