Tranmission issues after setting several days

2013 raptor.
When I leave my truck parked for several days and start it up and immediately put in gear the truck will barely move. it is like the transmission is low on fluid (somehow has leaked down inside) within a few seconds like it builds up pump pressure or refills the converter it is back to normal. Also if I let it it idles for a minute it will drive normal. This never occurs if I drive it every day. only if it sits for 3-4 days.
Anyone else have this problem?
Is it normal or should I take it to the dealer still under warranty?

You could take it into ferd to have them look at it. They will prolly tell you nothings wrong... dodge trucks are prone to this. There's an anti drain back valve in the dodge truck filters. It's prone to gumming up and causing a similar situation, or if a cheap jobber filters installed. I'm not super experienced with the 6R80. How ever I have delt with the same kinda thing in ford 4R100's, 5R110W, and E40D's. It's perty common (in my experiences) for drain back to occur in gm, dodge, ford after periods of sitting. I'm sure others with more knowledge will chime in tho!

I was thinking it has something to do with a drain back valve. May also explain another issue we had once.
we had went hiking overnight and parked on a steep downhill lot facing down. next day when we left truck would not shift out of first gear. I wonder if it had somehow overfilled the converter or something by fluid draining forward in the transmission. That has never happened again but the low pressure and not wanting to move after sitting several days is predictable. happens every time it sits for 3-4 days

I have to be honest but putting any automobile with a automatic transmission into gear right after turning the key is asking for trouble.
At least let the idle kick down before throwing into gear, that's definitely unnecessary wear and tear.
Even if you have a tranny problem or not.

Mine has only ever done that when it is really cold outside and it didn't get parked in the garage, other than that, never had the issue.

2011 and mine does this if it sits. I let it warm up and it does not happen then.

Anything hydraulic needs a few seconds to build pump pressure. Not advised to just jump in and slam it into gear.....

TSB 14-0217 DELAYED ENGAGEMENT PARK TO FORWARD OR REVERSE

FORD: 2011-2014 Expedition, F-150, Mustang

LINCOLN: 2011-2014 Navigator


This article supersedes TSB 14-0076 to update the Part List.

ISSUE:
Some 2011-2014 Expedition, Mustang, F-150 and Navigator vehicles may exhibit a delayed park to forward or reverse transmission engagement only on initial vehicle start up after parking several hours or overnight. The vehicle functions normally after the initial engagement has completed.
ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
Use IDS datalogger to measure the amount of time it takes the vehicle to reach approximately 5 Km/h (3 MPH) at engine idle speed without pressing the accelerator pedal, verifying transmission pump operation.

1.Verify transmission fluid temperature is at 77 °C (170 °F) or above.
2.Park the vehicle for a minimum of 6 hours or overnight on a level spot where it can be driven forward uninhibited for up to 5 Km/h (3 MPH).
3.Using IDS, with Ignition On and Engine Off, select the following Parameter Identifications (PID)
a.VSS Vehicle speed
b.TRS Transmission Range selector
c.BOO1 Brake On
d.APP% Accelerator Pedal Position
e.Gear_Mode Transmission gear
f.TFT Transmission Fluid Temperature
g.TSS_SRC Turbine Speed Sensor
h.RPM Engine Revolutions
i.Gear_Rat Transmission Gear ratio
Read and review the following steps before performing them as they need to happen consecutively.

•Make sure the parking brake is released.
•Do not apply the accelerator pedal for this test.
4.Press the record function and perform the following steps.
a.Press the brake pedal.
b.Start the engine.
c.Immediately place the transmission selector lever drive (D) position.
d.Immediately release the brake pedal and allow the vehicle to move at idle speed only. Do not accelerate.
5.After recording for 15 seconds, stop the vehicle.
6.Using the scroll feature, slide the time bar to the point when the brake was released as indicated by BOO1, and note the time at the bottom.
7.Move the slide until the VSS shows 5 Km/h (3 MPH), or the maximum speed attained.
8.Did the vehicle reach 5 Km/h (3 MPH) within 5 seconds ?
a.Yes - vehicle is operating normally. This procedure does not apply.
b.No - replace the transmission pump assembly. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 307-01.

I agree- maybe I should rephrase. I didn't mean slam into gear just as I start it up. If you start up normally and then put into gear it does this.
shouldn't have top let idle for 20-30 seconds before transmissions builds pressure to drive away.


It is like doing an oil change and when you start the engine it has to circulate oil back through filter and oil passages before you see the gauge pop back up but then after that you have oil pressure as soon as you start up. That is how this feels, like all the fluid has drained out of the pump and back into the pan over the couple of days.

It is still in warranty so will take it to dealer to have them test. Just wanted to see if others had same thing or if something was actually wrong.

Well I'm one of those that lets it idle till at least the throttle kicks down.
In the winter I remote start for five to ten minutes before taking off. Mostly because I want heat!!!
And before I had remote start, I'd freeze a little. LOL
In the summer time I rarely use remote start but I still wait 30 45 seconds before driving off. It's something I've done all my life.

But not doing it, risks the O-rings from getting damage and creating leaks, foaming and air bubbles in the fluid is not good either.
So you may or may not have prematurely killed the life span of your Tranny. MAYBE.
You could have something unrelated going on.

Also don't forget we have a thermostat in the tranny that won't open up till 170 degrees.
It's supposed to be a safety measure so the truck won't develop 100% torque till operating temp is reached.
