Maybe I should’ve posted this here first instead of general area.

I’m looking for some knowledge from those with experience towing with the 2nd gen. I’ve got a 19 Screw and looking at getting a 32’ travel trailer, 6400 lbs dry with GVRW of 7995 lbs, tongue weight is just over 600 (per the manufacturer). It will have WD hitch also.

Has anyone towed something that long and that close to max? I won’t pull it super often maybe 10 ten times per year and it wouldn’t be super far either. Biggest question is, would this be safe with the Rap or is a 3/4 ton a must have with something this long? I don’t want to get rid of the truck but if it can’t handle that trailer safely then I will trade her in. Really would love to hear from someone who tows a large RV or has tower one with a gen 2 like mine.

You'll be fine. I pulled a 34.5 across country (with a stage 2 and 4" bump stops). If you aren't going far, you'll be ok, just keep your speed down. Set up your WDH correctly. If you are pulling all the time, the 3/4 is the way to go but 'occasional' won't hurt. Heck, it's a truck. Be sure not to overload or you put yourself and others at risk. Good pulling!

I have a 2020 and pull a 24' travel trailer about 4000 lbs empty. SO maybe 4750 lbs. I have a WD hitch and I still get quite a bit of squat but it is doable. Its a little scary on roads with a lot of woops up and down. I am considering added bumpstops or devers springs to improve the squat. If you come up with a good solution let me know. D

Moral of the story here is that the truck was never really meant to do any real towing. It's got an incredibly soft suspension (for a truck) and you'll likely be pushing max payload with that trailer. Up to you if you care or not but if you do any amount of "regular" towing of those amounts, you'll probably kill the stock springs. Mine went flat after running too much weight in the bed for too long so I went with Icons.

I don’t have experience but since you asked for opinions. I’d say 10 times a year is enough to upgrade the rear springs and maybe some bump stops. You’re pushing your luck with something that size. I wouldn’t be comfortable in stock form.

I use my 2017 to tow frequently (about 4,500#) and it does fine. Biggest impact is to the gas mileage which, since you seem to spend significantly more time in boost, can be horrific. The shape of the pulled load seems to have an impact too. Hauling a car and trailer from San Diego to Louisiana I experienced about 13.5mpg at "normal highway" speeds (75-80) but a few weeks back hauling a boat to Tampa, I was seeing as low as 8 mpg at freeway speeds which rose to 11 mpg as long as I stayed in the 65 mph range! Also a bad contributor on the Tampa run was that the boat was a party-barge and so it presented a large and flat front profile to the wind that sat above the Raptor profile. Any time the boost gage is climbing, the mileage seems to drop exponentially.

How did it go towing that trailer? I am looking at a 26ft with similar weight

I towed with a Gen 1 set up with Timbrems and it was ok, Trailer was 8500lbs loaded, it did okbut gave it up for a New F250.Now have a Gen 2 and set it up with the Roadmaster Active Suspension, this is a reaaly nice setuo that IMO improves the ride overall. Will be picking up a new Toyhauler this weekend but have to assume this will help all around. Install lifted the rear about an inch which is fine because I have a cap which added about an inch of squat. Anyway great product.

I keep seeing people mention bump stops. I thought they were just shocks/energy absorbers that made contact with your axle only at the end of travel. How do bump stops help? Do they have Springs in them? Do you rest on them?

I would get a 3/4 or 1 ton personally. That camper will never be ‘dry’ when you’re pulling it, and these trucks just aren’t set up for that kind of weight.
