I was pulling an excavator home last week (320 miles) and was wondering how much others actually tow?? My truck has just over 17,200 miles and between 4800-5000 of it is towing something
I have more than 1000 miles this year alone towing this. No gear or fuel in the boat is still 4000 lbs+. As people said in other forums, it's more about stopping and making sure the tail isn't wagging the dog.
Actually, the excavator in the photo only went 9 miles. The one I towed 320 miles was slightly smaller and on a different trailer, probably right at 5500 lbs total load. It sat pretty level on that trip as the hitch was higher than the one in the photo.
I have about 1000 miles towing, I'd say it weighs in around 5500 with my usual load out. Tows great, did take a little getting use to the softness of the rear.
