the source of my info was a mechanic who had written in on a f150 forum.I gave it a second thought because it would explain all the repairs i am reading about that fail. ford should tell all service managers to replace the lines on every repair.i wonder how much labor is required. there is a rubbing issue on the lines near the wheel.

i spent about an hour looking at the lines today- i couldn't find any sign of damage or cracking, or brittleness. I am hoping that this is the problem as it seems an easy one to fix… but I can't see any issues. Have most of the damaged lines been near the T and the engine, or on the outer part near the hub?

i read near the wheel....they are described as pin holes or micro holes.

for the amount of money and time being wasted changing the lines could not hurt. by the way maybe just let them proceed with their own methods you are creeping into lemon law area right.

there's no lemon law out here! in any case, I bought the truck from a supplier in the US (SDHQ) and shipped it out here...

the lines can also be blocked from contamination.

checked the lines etc with a vacuum gauge- the solenoid, and all sections of the lines are holding a strong, consistent vacuum. no evidence of blockages or damage. Other than to the actuator and the hub.

can you thing of any other factor that would be causing the damage to the IWEs?

I finally have my truck back after nearly two months in the shop. They couldn't pinpoint the exact cause of the failure. They replaced the following parts:

  • Complete front differential assembly
  • Left and right Half shafts
  • Left and right IWE's
  • Right front hub assembly
  • Front driveshaft
  • Rack and pinion (broke while testing on the lift, the diff clunked and snapped it)

In addition to the parts they replaced, they also tore down the transfer case and reassembled it (looking for any potential problems). I'm hesitant to even touch the 4wd knob to test it because my new 2014 Raptor should be in within a couple weeks and it might be a little more difficult to trade in a truck while it's stuck in service.

I was considering picking up a go pro and mounting it like Rorywg and do some testing this weekend. It would be very interesting to see and hear what's going on down there.

just to be safe i would think they would replace the lines. the video was interesting because you could actually see the cv jump and jerk when it clunked.

wanderfalk- do you mean the splines and springs in the IWE? there seems to be damage to the spines, but it is slight. last time, the plastic ring on the hub actuator was broken.
