I don't understand how a better vacuum pump would make the 4wd stay in better. The hubs engage when there is no vacuum present so how could that help?

My truck sounds like it is having the same issues as some of those above.

- I engage 4H when stationary
- on firm desert ground with gentle acceleration there is no problem
- in soft sand, with accleration, the clunk kicks in
- no issues of any kind in 2WD (ie, I don't see how any vacuum-related matter could be the cause)

i have installed a new driver's side hub and actuator. Any advice?

The dealer is currently replacing the transfer case, I don't know if that will be a true fix yet. I have never engaged the 4wd while moving, always stationary and it is only engaged when absolutely needed. I have a 2014 ordered, I sure hope it doesn't have the same 4wd problems that mine has been plagued with. I will get with the dealer on Monday and see if I can get some pictures of the failed transfer case components.

if your iwe is fully engaged and clunking it would have to be a rounding off issue in the spline or iwe. i imagine the problem being like a worn out gear box.

The oem vacuum is fragile. The vacuum pump holds te vacuum alot stronger than the oem way. Ive broken my whole 4x4 just cause te vacuum failed on me many times and even in 2wd the hubs, axles and front dif spider gears were engaged.
Atlast 4 speed will be installed alongside side a dynatrac pro 60 ifs

You can engage 4x4 at speed anytime. Just don't do it under power. I've gone through a few and following those guidelines seems to be making them last a lot longer.

Now I have a clunk when backing up my drive way or in a parking lot that has get to be fixed.
