Ticking or clicking noise on hard accelerations

Recently, I noticed only on Wide open Throttle, I hear a clicking noise, sounds like a bad CV joints…. boot or something clicking, at the beginning it was only a click or 2. I first thought it was little stones getting thrown out to the metallic side step, that is exactly how it sounded when it was one or 2 clicks…. but now it sounds like a click click click click….. but again only when I push the gas pedal really hard.

This happens on 2WD so I think the front axles are not connected to the wheels.

Do you guys have any idea where to look ?

On a straight stretch of road have it in 4H and see if the noise goes away. It could be your IWE’s. what year?

What you’re describing sounds exactly like what my boosted gen 1 does with 89 octane under hard acceleration and is pre detonating…..

Sounds like the IWEs are partially engaging under heavy throttle. As CoronaRaptor said, try to duplicate the noise in 4WD. If it no longer happens, it’s IWE related.

Alright, so I just tried it on 4H and there was no noise.

I went back to 2WD and also no more ticking noise !

You might have a vacuum leak, monitor it. Also could be that check valve above your master cylinder for the iwe's.

I also noticed that my Turbo gauge does not go all the way at Full Throttle. It only goes up to 3/4 or something.

I think it should go all the way to Max when at full throttle !

Is it related to the vacuum leak ?
