I've been lurking on here for about 5 years, I've primarily owned Fords my whole life mostly f150s and f250s. Last year I bought a 2011 suburban ltz since everyone I know says GM trucks are amazing... I'm not impressed. I noticed recently prices have come down on gen 2s and I have found some in my price range. Im a little concerned about some of the horror stories ive seen on the 3.5 and was wondering how you guys have been holding up now that some of the trucks are getting past there factory warranties. Side question I've been seeing quite a few buy back (Lemon) trucks come up for sale cheap what's your opinion on those. I don't know why im so nervous to pull the trigger on a gen 2 I honestly don't mind getting a gen 1 and throwing a few thousand in upgrades at it. If any want to post links to direct me to post or other pages for more info I'm all for the reading material.

Welcome to the place. Chevy sucks! lol. Anyway, either gen 1 or 2 are good, they have worked out the kinks with the gen2`s, but you only hear about the problems, not the good stuff. Main difference between the two is gas mileage is better and more technology on the gen 2. You can`t really upgrade technology on the gen 1 but you can "rebuild" one for a lot less $$$ out of pocket. Good luck in your search and I'm sure more guys will report in and give you a hard time about buying a suburban :D

Based on the sentence I quoted, I might assume you are trolling. I booked my 2018 last year about this time. I booked it last week, surpisingly the number is basically unchanged after another year and additional miles.

In case you are not trolling, just go buy one. You will not regret it.

There's a 2017 for sale near me for under 50k. I'm looking at a couple different ones, this was the first one I found.

The mileage would bother me because of the lack of warranty longer term. With all the newer and expensive tech in these trucks I doubt I’ll keep mine out of warranty. I bought brand new so I could have the full 8/125 term to enjoy it. Maybe I’m wrong and am wasting money on a new truck and warranty, and these Gen 2 trucks will last forever and work perfectly. I don’t have any doubts about the base powertrain functioning far out of warranty, I’m envisioning a $2K repair or a $3K repair for the high tech systems to continue functioning. Think about ACC, complex climate control system, live valve shocks, 360 camera, sunroof, etc as the truck ages. If I were buying a “forever truck” I’d have bought an 800A or a stripped 801A with less extras to go wrong.

There are at least 5 Gen 2s advertised below $50K around here. Black, white Screws around 80K miles. Blue Scab with 18K miles.

$55K gets you a bunch of low milesage 2018s. Ruby Red Screw with 36K. Race red Scab with 6K miles.

Gas mileage doesn't bother me, my suburban gets horrible mileage, low teens combined.

So..there is a lot more than just technology and gas mileage differences. The Gen 2's are more powerful, better clearance, improved frame strength and sound way worse. Gen 1s are good but the Gen 2 is much better. Personally at this late date I'd wait for the Gen 3 that's supposed to be released later this year and see what's up. Gen 2 reliability has been amazing and the 2019/2020 models really have no weaknesses. Every brand and every model will have their one off exceptions but the Raptor and the 3.5 ecoboost is extremely solid compared to the competition. As for buying a lemon..well...I think you get what you pay for but if you're willing the risk it then perhaps there is a diamond in the rough waiting for you:)

depends on the reason for the lemon buyback - if it's electrical or say they had take the dash out and such that would be a hard no
