As it turns out, nuclear is the greenest energy that we have. We can argue about exactly how green it is, but nothing beats it. Safety? There has never been an accident in a gen 3 plant. Gen 4 is better. If it weren't for Russia, and maybe China, pushing nuclear fear, we'd be in mid-implementation.

Also, a gallon of gas in Germany is 10 bucks a gallon.... and it has always been twice what it is in the US--- like they say, if you can afford a Raptor, it isn't about mileage or gas price... if you don't like it, buy a Prius.

If battery technology doesn't meet military readiness and sustainment needs, then it doesn't meet mine. Several years ago I moved my household from northern Alabama to northern Nevada - 2,000 miles. I did it with my Raptor, U-Haul trailers, and a U-Haul truck. Could I have done it with a Tesla? Models X and Y are available with a towing package and have 5,000 and 3,500 towing capacities respectively. But towing severely reduces range, and the time penalty involved in stopping multiple times to recharge would have turned a 3-day trip into a 2-week nightmare.

The response to that is that 99% (or something similar) of driving is within the vehicles range, and you can rent a vehicle otherwise. Sure, but that is added cost, and even greater cost when more people have to rely on rental vehicles, there are fewer gas stations and more expensive gas, etc.

More important to that imagine a world where the majority of vehicles are EVs, and a hurricane is approaching a major population area. Mass evacuation is required. A lot of people are going to die because they could not get power to charge their vehicles and evacuate.

Lots of big corporations are having record profits these days. And I'm not sure if your suggesting that oil companies should cut margins in the US or in Germany. As you pointed out, US is paying less than other places already.

I was ok with the price of gas when I bought my Raptor. I was fine when it was 20% higher. I am not fine with double the price. And honestly, I'm less concerned about gas prices than the rising prices of everything else. I am less concerned about how those prices impact me personally than I am about how it impacts my kids, my mother, and others I care about that don't have the income or wealth to easily absorb getting significantly less for their dollar. I'm not all that altruistic, but this is a huge problem for those living paycheck to paycheck, including all the illegal aliens. But hey, it's the morally right thing to do.

Well, except that nuclear waste is essentially forever and as a nation we have demonstrated that we lack the political will to do anything permanent with it. But nuclear energy is at best a sidebar in this discussion. The point is that America and the world is extremely mobile, that mobility is almost entirely dependent upon fossil fuels, the cost of those fuels has risen dramatically in the past 12 to 14 months, and it's driving up the cost of everything that is transported to market. Everything on the shelves of every retail store you've ever been to, everything that you order on-line, even the gasoline and diesel at the pumps is delivered to market with fossil fuel power regardless of whether it comes by truck, train, air, or a combination thereof.

Its a lesson in unintended consequences. Solar is safe and green because it comes from the sky and doesnt pollute.

Hundreds of people died last year falling to their death while installing solar panels on roofs.

Also solar panel arrays are actually heating up many locales as well as disrupting local desert habitats due to excessive heat.

Largest killer of endangered birds of prey are wind mills.

Again. No solutions. Just trade offs.
