You're a prince Jason! Well done! Seriously!

Time to break out the geometry and calculate the angles and turn them into inches of ground clearance, etc. Then you can plot all this in Excel and create a chart for us. (I'm half serious).

Really good work - glad you're on our team :)

Thanks for adding more clarity (and value) to yet another technical discussion.

And the more I think about this, the more I really like what I decided to do with the stock hooks. They're the limiting factor now (just as stock), but the way I've mounted them has essentially turned them into skids. Each one could support the entire weight of the truck (probably 3x or 4x the weight, actually), and since they're vertically mounted, the rounded edge will tend to want to skid along the obstacle, not dig into it. Then as it does slide, there's nothing behind that will grab for a good 8" or so. And after that its all skid plate.

So to go back to the pics I posted, I may have hit the ground, but the hooks would have basically slid right along it until the tires could grab again.

Not something I plan to ever do... but nice to know its possible, at least.

Hah there was a day...

Naw, for these purposes, packing tape gets the job done. As time allows, I think I'll go retry though, just to be sure. I'm not 100% confident I got the tire/pavement interface correct (especially after looking at how Ford measures). Maybe I can do a little better. But even still, the relative changes will be the same no mater what.

Really good work - glad you're on our team :)

Happy to help! That's what we're here for.

Any further thoughts on the perch mod itself? I'm not discounting it, yet. But does anyone else think that 2-4degrees worth of approach angle is worth the cost?

Jason, I was serious about documenting the approach angle (the departure and breakover angles can be done later) and using that angle and the height of the lowest component (your tow hooks?), plotting it and then comparing it to what could be if you get plus 1", plus 1.5", plus 2", etc., we can chart the differences. I think that would be cool.

Okie dokie. I'll try and put together something soon, complete with pics.

Big J.

Now I don't know much about all the spring compression stuff but I am certain this had to be done with the leveling kit in order to get the spacers in there. I had mine installed for $180 with alignment at my Ford dealership. The price you were quoted seems pretty extreme.

Sounds like you are not doing the perch jump anyway so I guess it doesn't matter.

Just FYI.

Thanks for info NC. I haven't discounted the idea entirely. I'm hoping Mark can dig up in the info he posted on the Z. I'm also hoping to hear others' opinions on all this.

Thanks again!

You do not need a spring compressor to do a spacer kit... basic hand tools and a floor jack will get it done.

I am wondering if the additional ring lands Fox machined into the shock are too compensate for the additional weight of the 6.2, and the 6.2 will use the one of the other ring lands?
I honestly do not think that Fox would have machined those ring lands if it were detrimental to use them.(again I am thinking, and that can be dangerous!LOL)

I will carefully go over this mod when I recieve mine. I will do the mod and let you know how it goes. It will only cost me $40.00 for the alignment and I will be able to tell you if they will need to be aligned after the mod.
