Tempted to upgrade to a Gen 3.

Guys, it’s been 2 years since I bought my gen 2 and I’m already looking at the gen3. I’ve been eyeing a few online but haven’t driven one yet. Does the gen3 feel a lot different behind the wheel compared to the gen 2? Has ford fixed the clunky transmission shifts? Has the waste gate rattle been fixed? What’s the biggest improvements over the gen2 in your opinion? I love my gen 2 but there’s some things that could be improved I feel like. I guess I’m looking for a smoother more refined truck than the gen 2.

Already plenty of great replies for your request, but the main improvement is the 5 rear links suspension compare of the fu*** leafs . No doubt it's a huge improvement ,the other things are minor, some say interior is better, I would say it's just different...

Going from 2 to 3 isn't much of an "upgrade", same engine with more or less better rear suspension, slightly updated gizmos; at the heart it's still basically the same truck. To me that doesn't justify the substantial additional cost.

The gen 3 is more refined from a ride standpoint. Being able to change your settings for everything without using a default mode is nice. The transmission is maybe a little better, but largely similar in clunkiness. You get a larger screen, but most of the features are nearly identical. The stereo especially after some of the over the air updates is quite a bit better than my gen 2. Its still not a amazing stereo, but its pretty noticeable improvement. If you're coming from a 19/20 gen 2 I can say its definitely a smoother more refined driving experience. I can't speak for the blue body 17/18 driving experience.

I have this same problem. Have a Leadfoot (Best Color Raptor Ever ) late production 2020, love the truck. However the interior in the 2025 is much better... HUD, updated screen, drive mode selections, suspension, 37 inch tires, exhaust. Ultimately my decision to upgrade comes down to the Gen2's possibly losing a significant amount in terms of trade in value over the next year, which I'm using to alleviate the taxes on my future truck given their astronomical gain in MSRP over the past few years. Whether that's going to happen or not, who knows. Coupled with dealers and their stupid ADM and a possible tax write off for car loan interest with the incoming administration could make buying a new raptor quite expensive. All theoretical, however that is the reason for me and buying a new 25, and who doesn't want a new Raptor?!?

The way i described going from a gen2 to a gen3 is that the rear suspension feels like the front does too. I just remember the front suspension being so nice and absorbing but the rear would bounce around etc. With the Gen3 the front and rear feel the same to me. Huge improvement in that alone.

I appreciate the feed back guys! Lots to think about. A paid off truck is really nice and I still have some warranty left for the next few years. I think the biggest reason I’m considering making the switch is because I have a bunch of maintenance items that are coming up. Tires, shock rebuild, driveline oil change etc and that’s going to add up fast. Also all the upgrades on the gen 3 keep tempting me. If Just worried I’m going to get hosed on the trade in. I’ve noticed prices really dropping out on the gen 2 market lately .

If the tires are pretty worn they will dock ya on trade in anyway. With trades it seems like they start at a good price...then they look for anything to take 2-3+K off. Chip in the windshield, worn tires... those two things alone are probably 3K off.
